2006 Impreza 2.5i updates:
~1yr update Nov 29, 2010
Made some changes in the last year.
Removed the skid plate, put the factory’s plastic undertray back on.
Changed the brake pads to Centric Posiquiet ceramics.
I’ve been delivering pizzas for a year or so now… taking the weight penalty for the skid seems silly when I’ve not been to a rallycross in almost 2 years. Also, the aggressively rear biased brake pad combo was making the rear end slide out at icy intersections.
Other notes… winterforces really ruin the dry road feel of the car, and are obnoxiously noisy. Not really a surprise, aside from just how bad it is. On the other hand, I don’t bother looking at the forecast anymore, so its an alright trade-off. I just need to pick up a second set of wheels and tires this spring.
Car ate the front cat around ~45k miles, replaced under warranty without any problem.. just a slight worry because the front cat includes the front exhaust manifold, and its an $800 part… hopefully #2 lasts longer than the first.. or dies before the fed. warranty ends at 80k.
Other than that, car’s around 61k as of this update… a lot of clunks and rattles from both ends of the suspension that I’ve got to figure out where they’re coming from, but in fairness its not been an easy life on any part of the suspension. Between the rallyX and the washboarded gravel road bombing runs…
That and there’s an awful lot of driveline lash. Hmm… seems like I just need to replace all of the rubbery bits on the car to bring it back to (better than) showroom fresh. Must be time for some Group N mounts and bushings…. might as well upgrade while fixing it.
