They added an UPDATE feature, very nice.
Well, the 2008 year for open track days was a good one. I only got in 7 track days due to the local track being shut down for a few months and was able to finish off my RA-1’s and most of the A046 (Evo8 takeoffs) in that time.
The car did great most of the year. I did find that with temps above 90F that the oil temps were getting above 260F pretty easily and water temps started to rise above 240F at times at the end of a 25-30 min session. I added some ducting around the radiator to help air flow and this helped some, but not enough. I have a basic oil cooler setup in the garage and this will be going on soon enough. A lower lip/small splitter will be added too as I have time.
For August, I found that above 95F, the NGK spark plugs didn’t like detonation to well and decided to melt on me. I threw in a new set of plugs and dropped the boost from 11psi to 8psi and made it through the rest of the day. I’m thinking the 9.5:1 CR is a little too much. A friend gave me a free set of DET 8.5:1CR pistons, so I’ll probably switch over to these soon enough to keep from running a mix of premium and race fuel.
The Sept track day is where the T28 turbo decided to implode on me just before lunch. The turbo I had gotten for cheap and had a lot more shaft play than it was supposed to, I guess it decided to give finally. I got my free AAA+ tow home and rushed to find a replacement T25 ($50) to complete the last 3 track days in October. I also started to instruct for the local BMW driving school, so needed the car running.
A Garret T3/T04E 50trim turbo and JGS BOV are in the garage and currently waiting on the JGS turbo manifold and external WG. The car will be making its way to the cage builder after new years for a basic 4pt cage since I still drive the car to the track and back. A few modifications to the suspension (rear spherical bearings in the uprights) and alignment are in order, but overall the suspension will stay unchanged through 2009.
