Here comes the KIC! Jul 15, 2010

From the Desk of: Joe Gearin

Out of all the events I travel to throughout the year, the Kohler International Challenge presented by Brian Redman is one of my favorites. Road America is a fantastic track, in a beautiful setting. It is also very long, so the big bore cars car really stretch their legs! This is a wonderful place to see Can-Am and classic open wheel cars really gather some serious speed.

On both Friday and Saturday night the charming little resort town of Elkhart Lake opens up it’s town center for a car show. Friday it is the race cars that line the area surrounding the world famous Seibkien’s tavern. One of the highlights of my year takes place just after dusk. All the race cars fire up and blast out of town as the spectators line the streets. The cops try to keep the shenannigans to a minimum, but there are always a few drivers willing to rev their engines, or lay a little rubber. The atmosphere is electric, and everyone has a smile on their faces. Good fun. Saturday they have a street car show. This show is also a lot of fun, but nowhere near the spectacle that the Friday show provides.

Probably the best thing about the KIC are the people that live in Wisconsin. Everyone you meet is incredibly friendly, genuine, and helpful. They may be the nicest people in the United States.

I’m jumping on a jet in a few hours to head to this year’s event. As you can tell I’m a bit excited, so I’ve posted a few images from years past. Look for more images soon from this year, as well as a bit of video I’ll shoot with our new HERO HD provided by GoPro! www.goprocamera.com
