StillMINI Jan 4, 2009

Kim has been agonizing about what to do with her 2007 MCS—the one that we’ve been autocrossing for the past two years and have been taking to Nationals. The new kid on the block has made our car situation a matter of planning and sometimes argument as we fight over the truck that can A) tow and B) haul a kid and their seemingly endless amounts of crap. The MINI is simply too small to fit a rear-facing child seat and even the forward facing ones are a pain to get to. This leaves Kim essentially stranded if I need my Xterra for anything. This has been made worse by the fact that I bought an autocross car that needs to be trailered everywhere.

So, Kim has been hunting around for a car that would work for her. It needs to haul the baby and some stuff and haul butt. See, Kim is rather addicted to the stick-shift MINI and its awesome handling. That had lead us down the road to a 3-series wagon, but Kim even found those to be a bit numb compared to the MINI.

This weekend, we had to take the MINI in for its 2-year check-up (which included free front brakes as ours were worn—gotta love free maintenance) and for grins, we tried the baby seat in the new Clubman. I thought it was going to be too small and too much of a pain in the butt, but it’s actually quite easy to get in and out of with a baby carrier. Kim’s eyes got a evil little gleam in them.

So, we’re looking at ordering a non-S Clubman for Kim’s next car. It’s not going to be the autocross terror that the 07 is, but it should be fun for Kim to fling around and she can have fun at our local autocrosses in H Stock.

Bring the baby seat to work and stick it in Pasterjak's MS3? Not quite the handling capabilities of the MINI, but close...and with WAY more power!

agreed on the ms3

The MS3 is nice, but not our personal style. Clubby is ordered, fugly be damned.

From that screenshot, Kim almost picked the right color... BLACK is actually on the opposite side of the chart! Congrats on the new Mini, glad to see you're still in the family!
