Laps for Life May 26, 2009

On June 20, 2009, racers will be making their way to Summit Point Raceway near Washington, D.C., for the 8th Annual NASA HyperFest. The event is a circus of automotive fun, from crazy infield activities to a US Drift competition and NASA road racing.

However, it’s not all hijinks. Thanks to fellow NASA racer Jack Higginbotham of Paul Reed Smith Guitars, a group of us will be racing to make a difference in the lives of many cancer patients and their families.

On behalf of Grassroots Motorsports magazine, I will be competing in the Autobahn sprint race in a Drive-Gear Racing BMW Spec E30. I would like to ask for your support as we race to raise money for the John Hopkins Kimmel Cancer Center.

This race typically covers from 9 to 12 laps, and I am asking for pledges based on the number of laps that I complete in the race. You can donate as little as one dollar per lap or as much as you can, but whatever you pledge, your contribution matters. Your tax-deductible donation will go directly toward research and patient services. Every dollar you pledge truly makes a difference.

Send no money now; just visit lapsforlife.com to make a pledge. It only takes a few clicks, and you’ll find me and the other participating drivers listed in the “Pledge” category.

After the event, you will receive a letter containing my results, payment method options and a SASE to the John Hopkins Kimmel Cancer Center.

Thanks for your generosity,

Scott R. Lear

Scott, I can think of fewer worthy causes nor of any other place I'd like to see my pledge go to. You see, it was in the Pedicatric Oncology center at Kimmel where my very young friend, Gabrielle, fought but lost her battle against aplastic anemia. Next week, June 5th, we will be remembering her this first year gone by. Brie's lost broke my heart and it hurts only a little less today. But I believe all things happen for a reason. It is my hope that Brie's case shed light on a future cure. It is also my hope that you enjoy the upcoming race and finish well to put my money to good work. Thank you for the support... it means a lot. Sincerely, John Scofield

Scotaku, thanks very much for your donation, I'm just honored that Laps for Life gave me the opportunity to race for their very worthy cause. I'll do my best to run a good clean race and cross that start-finish as many times as possible!

And the results are? I think that I saw the car you were running towed in, but didn't get the story on why. Hoping to hear that you are okay.
