Driving other peoples cars. Aug 12, 2010
From the Desk of: Tim Suddard
I have been driving a lot of other people’s race cars lately for stories we are working on. I have driven Dodge’s new Viper ACR/X, a Caymen Interseries car and Butch Kummer’s GTA stock car. It is interesting how all race cars do basically the same thing, yet do it so differently. This has been a rather high horsepower run of cars and these cars were all very, very fast. The politics of all this is so interesting, as you need to drive the cars fast enough to impress, but not fast enough to distress, or worse yet, crash. I think I will write a column on this topic in the near future.

- You might want to mention those who have high horsepower cars and don't know how to drive them. There is nothing worse than seeing a Ferrari F40 on track being driven by someone that has no clue to what they are doing.

- Tim ran consistent 1:38's at Road Atlanta in only his second session in my car. Earlier that day I had run 1:34's, so he did a very admirable job for his first day in it. With sticker tires we ran a 1:31.6 during qualifying the next day (good for third of twelve in GTA) so Tim would have been right in the middle of things.
