Arizona Auctions and the Market Jan 19, 2009
After 7 days of classic car auctions in Arizona I am happy to report that the market is still very healthy, especially with sportscars.
During the course of the week I witnessed the sale of a 1967 Alfa Romeo Duetto in #2 condition for $46200, a #3 condition TR3a in BRG with grey leather for $30800, a ton of Porsche 356 coupes selling for a low of $29000 and a high of $65000, a number of XKE Jags ranging from 65K to over 100k and the high points—a SWB covered headlight Ferrari 250 California Spider that needed a full restoration for 4.95 million dollars and a original 1937 Talbot-Lago Teardrop Coupe also sold for $3.52 million.
There were also some great deals including a super nice original 1976 Fiat Spider for $7700 and a #1 condition 1971 Spitfire for under 9000. The cars that were a bit off in price—say 10%—were some of the full classics such as the Duesenbergs and Packards and there were many good buys for these cars as a result. So fear not the market for your car is fine and don’t rush out there and sell your sportscars unless you want to have to buy them again at a higher price later. Look for more coverage in the next issue of Classic.
