Hardware

Suggested by David S. Wallens

Next time you’re cruising the you-pull-it, grab any specialized hardware that applies to your car—even if you don’t need it right now. One day you’ll be happy that you grabbed those extra lower control arm bolts.

This is a great tip. At my pull-a-part, they won't charge you for any brackets, nuts, bolts or hardware if you buy a component. Another thing to keep an eye out for at the pull-a-part: new parts. Many times people the best intentions for their beater and it still ends up in the PAP. I often see new parts in boxes in the trunks of these cars. For example: 3 new Koni adjustables in the trunk of an Omni GLH. 2 new oem brake rotors in the trunk of a Maxima a new AC compressor in a Celica. These parts have the same price as a used part at the yard, so grab em. Often people have spent money trying to sustain a tired car, so watch out for new radiators, alternators, etc.

I've spent my life collecting hose clamps, bulbs, bolts and nuts when wandering through the scrappers and now when a simple bolt costs dam near $1.00 I'm left with a happy feeling every time I work on something and DON”T need to find someplace that has THIS fastener! Roar
