Dead electric pump?

Suggested by noisycricket

If percussive maintenance doesn’t get it working again, try momentarily reversing the power to the pump assuming that it has a non-permanent ground. Sometimes it works… sometimes it doesn’t… but if it’s easy to get to, it’s worth a shot.

Hammering seems to mainly work if the brushes are worn out or stuck in their holders, reversing power seems to work if the pump is physically jammed on its own innards or the commutator has a burr on it.

My '90 325i has been through about 4 pumps over the past 100k miles. Fuel lines are cool, filter's OK, power to pump is there, I even took out the tank and had it acid-cleaned. Now there's a dent on the tank near the bottom of the pump (perhaps I didn't notice B4????), and I hear there's some wiring under the plenum that can cause fuel delivery and gauge problems, and yes my fuel gauge and speedo act funny, so the dent and wires are the next stuff I'll try. But hey-I'll try your Idea too. Why not-I have 2 good relays. Anyone have any better ideas-please holler at me.

I found a vaccum hose that goes into the charcoal can, through some little device, and into the throttle body. Put new hose back on throttle. All wiring underneath looks OK. I'll keep plugging away.
