Want more power? Better fuel economy?
Suggested by SpeedyWilsonGive your junker a decent tune up. All those mods and bolt ons will work a lot better if you take a few hours and a few dollars to make sure your ride is running at its best. Change the plugs, cheap is ok. Most of the “special” +4,e3 and so on plugs dont make anymore noticeable hp than the stockers. If your using nos or forced induction you got to use ones tailored to your ride but you should already know this. Check the plug wires’ resistance with a meter. Just cause they look good dont make them work good. Check the airfilter. If the engine cant breathe it wont run worth crap, just like me and you. Aftermarket ones are good but even a new stocker can gain a few mpg over an old one thats clogged.
The most overlooked..check your fuel filter.Even if it is a bitch to get to. Not enough fuel can make it run lean and make it go boom!
Get a timing light and check your timing. It can be off for any number of reasons. A few degrees advanced past spec for a n/a engine can be a few free hp.But be crefull, only a few or you get spark knock and broken crap to fix.
Change the oil.I’m serious. Some synthetic blends offer a few hp over a conventional oil but is the price worth it?
Check those brakes for dragging and air the tires up like the numbers on the sidewall says to. Under inflated tires and draging brakes makes the engine work harder to move your ride. This burns more fuel than needed for the job and wears out parts.
Happy wrenching……
