Need a quick, budget-friendly taillight fix? Well, this team of creative college students has you covered.

While some people may just buy a new taillight, Night Owl Racing, Kennesaw State’s Grassroots Motorsports $2000 Challenge team, looked for the least expensive solution–after all, every penny counts.

What do you need? A generic LED strip, glue and a 3D printer.

For the 3D-printed housing, you can either find a print plan online or create one yourself. These students opted for the latter.

[The housing] cost, you know, pennies to make,” explained Ethan Foster, founder of Night Owl Racing. “From there, we got a generic LED strip light, glued it into the 3D print, connected everything, and then we were done.”

Added benefit? An increase in airflow thanks to the hollow design chosen by the team. “We like to say it gives us an aerodynamics boost,” Ethan joked.

Interesting design, for sure, especially for possibly getting air out from underneath the car.

Make a funnel shaped design off the under tray to help maximize down force? That would be sick.
