My son recently got his license and just signed up today for the 2021 challenge.  He'll be driving his grandfather's 2002 Buick Century which he's been using as a daily.  My dad bought the car new and it only has 60k miles but has been ridden hard and put away wet the last few years.  Paint's totally shot, every panel's dinged, lots of scratches, original struts, interior's worn, etc.  We'd like to use a FMV of $1500 but looking on CL, FB Marketplace, etc. they're listing for $2500 to $3500.  Used car prices are rediculous lately and these cars are in much better shape than our car. Rules say if 5 people agree with the $1500 we can use it, waddya say guys????  We're just planning on some Cunningham stripes and a cherry bomb muffler before the drive down to Florida from Philly area, not going to be giving anyone a run for their money.

Thanks!

Could you back up the FMV request with other sources?  For example what does NADA say it's private party value is in poor condition?

Show a few pics of the philly underbody rust here and you won't have any more "trouble" from the southerners. Haha.

Well Buick does have a long history of racing success. I think.

Great call Stampie!  I pulled up the NADA and Kelly Blue Book numbers and they're right in line with a $1500 valuation, I'll include those in my binder right next to the rusty underbody pic :) Thanks for the help guys! I think the original shocks will give it the advantage it needs in the cones...

I'm hoping for a 1975/1976 (?) Free Spirit Indy pace car theme graphic

I think you need three sources or five of us to agree. Are you wanting to go with the three?

$1500?! For that?!

I would say $2-500, is fair, i don't really see how anyone would claim that is a unfair as a < $2k  car. So count me as one of the five that agrees  i guess.

for what it's worth, you couldn't pay me to take a Buick Century. Though I fully support throwing a cherry bomb on it for LOLs

I'm not a challenge participant so my vote doesn't count, but $1500 seems like "all the money in the world" for that car. I certainly hope you can FMV it for that.

I would not argue with a $1500 fmv on a rusty almost 20 year old gm w body

If you need another, you can count me among those that think your $1,500 FMV is good.   Have fun!

I just reread the rules and you're right, I can't use the Nada and KBB prices. As of now I can count (if they have more than 50 posts) cruisermatt, dculberson, Patrick and Indy "Nub" Guy.  What do you think Stampie, give me my fifth $1500 valuation so we're official?  Thanks a lot guys!

The rules say as long as you have more than 50 posts your vote counts, thanks!

I'm late and not gonna be at the challenge but I'd say $1500 is high for a century

Those are gigantic pieces of E36 M3.

I'd pay $500 for that as an engine donor at best.  Ooph.
