Vehicle Description
NO RESERVE !!!!!
1987 Dodge Shelby Charger GLHS
Intercooled Turbo 2.2L, 5 speed.
Car #676 out of 1000.
An original Florida car with practically no rust.
MODEL INFORMATION
Shelby bought the last 1000 1987 Chargers, and upgraded the engine and suspension to create the GLHS. Engine changes included changing the turbo and adding an intercooler, and resulted in 175 hp and 175 lb-ft of torque. Suspension changes were lowered springs and adjustable Koni shocks.
These cars were very fast for the time, and several magazines reported 6.7 second 0-60 times with a top speed of 134mph.
CAR'S HISTORY
The previous owner had started bringing the car back to life. I bought the car in marginally running condition in 2004. Soon afterwards, I changed jobs and the car sat until 2007. I finally got time to work on the car, and the following parts were replaced.
NEW PARTS INSTALLED IN PAST YEAR
Fuel Pump, Filter, Hoses Starter Power Module (Used) Passenger CV Axle Power Steering Pump, PS Pressure and Return Hoses, PS Filter, PS Belt Alternator Belt Plugs, Wires, Cap, Rotor, coil Recored Radiator, Radiator Cap, Water Pump, Thermostat, Radiator and Heater Hoses Timing Belt and Tensioner
CURRENT CONDITION
Was driving the car some to identify what remaining repairs were necessary, but then it would not start. No spark.
The autoshutdown (ASD) relay within the power module is bad. Bypassing the ASD did not allow the car to run, so either my new coil/ballast is incorrect or there is another ignition problem.
Based on observations while the car was running, it also needs
PARTS NEEDED
Power Module ($25 used) Other Electrical Ignition Repair? Transmission axle seals (transmission oil leak) Tachometer does not work Speedometer does not work (worked before CV axle replaced, so I may not have gotten the cable inserted into the transmission properly) I would also recommend replacing my oil-resistant turbo oil return hose with the actual $15 hose from Forward Motion.
Car would also smoke sometimes at idle.
There is a tear in the driver's seat (see photographs). There is a minor dent in the right rear 1/4 panel (see photographs). There is a rust bubble just below the rear spoiler (see photographs). Missing the Shelby dash plaque. Armrest is broken.
INCLUDED WITH SALE
Included with the car is a set of factory service manuals (3 books). Extra set of ground effects panels. Note that the car does not run right now, so will have to be towed.
