Expect secrecy until the results are announced at the event banquet dinner then released afterwards. Probably after 8pm.

Why not?

I worked on the car, and I am not aware of anything that would not meet tech. 

Ugly?  Yes. But it is significantly safer than a whole bunch of cars that have showed up at the Challenge in the last 16 years that I have been attending. 
 

There is also a little bit more effort that aligns with the editorial goals of the event then you may be giving credit. As it sits, it's a weekend hack-job.  But it is part of a 3 year plan that will be a car that will be a strong contender for an overall win.

This was just a test run of the drive train. A proof of concept.  
 

More cars should come with similar planning. Year 1- build something easy that proves the direction you are heading and let's you compete.  Year 2- do major fabrication that transforms it into a completely different car.  Year 3- dial it in and make it extremely difficult to beat.

In some ways it is already significantly more effort than the many of cars that have come to the Challenge over the years.

That's exactly the approach I wish more people would take.  It's what it take to win, and to generate the kind of content that is truly worthy of the magazine.

Two man team from Philly and I'm sorry I can't remember their names- they brought a turbo CRX last year. The lead tech did a great job of using the rule where your time is valued at minimum wage. He did an engine swap on a person's car (12 hours of work, 7.25 per hour is 87$) and was traded a k series in exchange, which is on the books for the $87. He cleared it with the forum ahead of time but I can't find the thread.

EDIT: I forgot-that CRX actually ran the challenge previously some years back with a matchbox livery.

Awesome! Now the numbers make a lot more sense, take a $1k motor(maybe more depending on the other parts) out of the equation and I can definitely see how you get under $2k. 

I spent the entire drive home daydreaming about building a car...

That's how i try to roll.  Year 1 I brought my car to see how it was, year 2 I refined it, year 3 i tested, changed some stuff, and went home with a podium trophy.  This was to be year 2 development of the next car(I already know what it can do as it sits) but I'll just do all my testing and refining through the spring and summer and come back on basically year 3 in the development timeline.  It's a good formula because it's proven multiple times.
