Nice to see the Subie van actually run properly. GT did well, so congrats to them. Ed runs a really low 11 second pass again, but can't break into the tens. I'll need to get my junk dialed in to run with this crowd.

Ed ran an 11.02!  Once he gets traction that car takes off like a rocketship.  I think with a perfect launch it could run a high 10 no problem.

Presenting in the concours cost me half a point angry and I somehow got dead last in the concours...

I guess next time I won't bother painting the car or washing it.  One would think the magazine would want cars that photograph well in it...

Oh well there is always next year.

But it made no difference in the final standings, so just have a beer and begin plotting your revenge for next year.

I understand but I am disappointed in my performance.  I honestly figured the car was better than a 12 concours so I rolled the dice and this time I lost.  Getting dead last in the concours is a little surprising considering the car presented well and was possibly the cleanest car there.

It was cool getting to see several GRM'ERs in person that I had never met before.

We already agreed to buy an unfinished car for next year from another challenger.

I won't wait till the last minute like this year

This was a weird year as if y'all didn't know.  My borrowed car finished 8th and my soon to be car finished 27th.

4th, hot damn!  When I left everyone thought the score was more like 6th or 7th.  With another year or two of polishing, that car might do it.

I think Spirit went to Jonathan Whitaker, due to the extensiveness of his build thread and swapping motor with 36 hours to show time.

Editors and People's might've been rolled into one? If so I'm fairly sure that's one of them that was won by Robbie

It may just have been the 1/2 point that put us ahead of him in the long roof challenge. cheeky

Yes 29th the Saab.  I think I'm going to make the Saab a Soccer mom sleeper.  From what was described to me on that Fairmont it should have been a lot faster.

Two man team from Philly and I'm sorry I can't remember their names- they brought a turbo CRX last year. The lead tech did a great job of using the rule where your time is valued at minimum wage. He did an engine swap on a person's car (12 hours of work, 7.25 per hour is 87$) and was traded a k series in exchange, which is on the books for the $87. He cleared it with the forum ahead of time but I can't find the thread.

EDIT: I forgot-that CRX actually ran the challenge previously some years back with a matchbox livery.

You guys are talking about us (I think) we and the crx are in PA unfortunately but we felt it was important to exercise some caution this year. Also worth pointing out York not Philadelphia, redneck PA we have welding and sprint car swap meets.

I'll spill the beans for next year...

While I did a K swap in another car for a myriad of turbo D16 parts we've since chosen to modify the car to fit more in line with what we do here on a day to day.

Expect a heavily aero dependant 1500lb 500hp awd crx shaped thing next year. Without giving too much away here's how to get to big power challenge Ks

Ecu is the number one challenge, I was able to score a working AEM V2 for $150 plus shipping on FB marketplace, I was sure I was sending money into the abyss but thankfully I was wrong  There is no open source K tuning option even completely outdated early Kpros sell for more than a quarter of the budget.

Selecting the correct engine is surprisingly easy CRV K24s are extremely inexpensive and can support 400hp easily. $200 at any pick and pull.

K gearboxes are tricky unloved TSX 6spd is the most affordable but hardest to make work. For our purposes we'll be spending the next several months scouting pick n pulls for manual CRVs. Gearbox $75-1200

Clutch ebay 4 pad unsprung rsx type s clutch is surprisingly okay and $165.

Turbo plumbing is normal challenge hacked together scrap

Don't think for a minute that you would not have been in second place for Spirit of the event award!  You are what makes this event happen. You hit a roadblock on your primary and brought your secondary.  Not just any secondary but a 40 yr old car that you drove under its own power from  Utah and Back!

The winner of the first Challenge was a then old, 2.3 Mustang (turbo SVO) and the last finisher 20 yrs later was an even older, even slower, 2.3L Mustang.

Your Challenge (personal challenge) continues on for another couple of days as you have to still get the car back to Utah. You've got a lot more balls than the guys putting theirs back on the trailer.

You're too cool.

This was your first year. I have said that you arrive at The Challenge for the first time thinking you know what it is and leave with a different understanding.  I'd like to hear your thoughts on that.

Shaun (sorry I miss spelled your name earlier) was a great first time Challenge person.  He and his dad where stepped into the crowd just like they had been there before.  I was cool seeing the fox body and reliving memories from my sister's 4 banger fox body.
