If I wasn't laid up for a few months from back surgery, I'd go buy this now

Those things were too quick for their own good. The later ones with the 3.1 really scooted too, esp. with a 5-speed.

Here's one for sale near Mosport in Ontario. Newer model, shiny paint, convertible top and running for $1200.

That could be fun. The paint should buff right out.

Yes - 1.8 Turbo. Could be had in a 2dr or 4dr, including base model. Manual or auto trans. Aluminum wheels and WS6 suspension was included with the turbo option. 1986-1990 for production years. The 1.8 became a 2.0 - but I'm not sure in what year. I have an old Pontiac article also stating the FBI bought some of the Sunbird base model turbo coupes (in addition to Turbo Buicks). The car wasn't pushed hard by dealers-most were afraid of turbos at that time

A friend of mine worked at a Pontiac dealership back in 1988. They had a contest for the salesmen that awarded them prizes for selling certain cars. He sold a Grand Am and won a golf umbrella.

Then he sold a Grand Am Turbo and he won a golf trip to Scotland.

I am not making this up.

Grand Am Turbo? Wow, I haven't seen, or even thought of one of those in years. Looked great, but those motors just didn't last. 2 year production maybe?
