I'm looking for a ton of stuff, I'll start with Chevy 350 parts.
I've got an L98 here that's basically complete, but it's been outside with the heads off, and a bunch of stuff isn't usable.
Basically I'm twin turboing it, have all the top end TPI stuff, but I need heads (learn me on vortec, I'm not sure what years I need to fit an L98). Also need distributor, starter, Engine mounts (It's going into a tube chassis that's already built), and all the stuff like head bolts/studs etc. I know there's some people here that have tons of this stuff lying around, so I thought I'd ask.
Are you interested in shipping in stuff from all over to your mysterious secret lair, or are you located somewhere where other people might be and looking for this heavy stuff to be sort of local.
For instance, I have 2 complete 350 motors in my shop, and a set of 400 heads, that I'm never going to use. I would offer to sell them to you cheap if I knew you were close enoug to come get them.
Since your L98 has been sitting outside so long, will it tolerate the energy developed by twin turbos? Look it over well.
FWIW a few years ago I bought an HO-305 from a Monte Carlo SS for $150 to put in a Corvair. Unless your secret lair is in Mongolia, there's gotta be SBCs in your neighborhood.

Yeah, I don't know what's going on, I listed my location and stuff in my profile, but it's not showing up, I miss the old forum. Anywho, I'm in the DC area. I paid $150 for the L98 I've got, more because all the EFI stuff was in good shape, etc, but maybe it'd end up cheaper to buy another complete instead of getting dimed to death replacing bad stuff.
Also looking for some guidance, like if I came across vortec heads, how much would a GRMer want to pay max?
vortec heads require a $$$ TPI intake base to work with them.

Technically, if you wanted to get all grassroots on it, couldn't you make adapter/spacer plates to mate the old style intake to the new style heads? I know the 4.3 guys resorted to doing so with vortec heads and pre-vortec Sy/Ty intake manifold.

No adapter needed for the "old" Vortec heads that will bolt to his L98. The only difference with that manifold that matters is that the center intake-to-head bolts on each head are angled straight up and down, as opposed to perpendicular to the head like the rest of the bolts and all the bolts on older SBC motors. The GRM method for bolting them on is to get out a rat-tail file or die grinder and slot the mounting holes in any old manifold to bolt it on.
Those heads new were never over $500 a pair, so they should be reasonable used. Probably not much cheaper than buying an entire newer 4.8/6.3/5.7/6.0L LS-based Vortec motor, though, but you would save on the accessories.
oldopelguy - the gen1 vortec heads, 96+ 350 deals, have comlpetely different intake bolt pattern and taller ports on the heads. there are only 8 bolts, and they all run vertical. you "can" drill them for the old intake pattern but it's silly choking up the bigger intake port with the small port intake manifold. and i do not believe there is room on the stock TPI base to port it out enough to take advantage of the ports.
dunno what happened to the prices but summit and pace had the L31 vortec heads at over $400 per head last time i checked.

Kent, what are you up to now??? Is that a Kinder L98? If so I can't imagine what abuse that sucker's seen...

Ditto. You were confusing the '87+ center valvecover bolt heads with '96+ Vortecs. They're very different things. The center valvecover bolt style heads have the 2 vertical bolts on either side of the intake manifold.
Scoggin Dickey makes (made?) a TPI base manifold for Vortec heads. There probably aren't a lot of them out there though.
