I am searching for a set of Ford 8.8" 2.26 or 2.47:1 rear gears.  I do not know what they would have been originally installed in.

Looks like 2.47 is 83-86 f150 and 2.26 is 79-81 ford lincoln mercury passenger cars.  I’ll keep an eye out.

I had a 79 LTD, first year panther with the 2.26:1 rear end. It's been 18 years since I've seen it, but I'm certain that it was an 7.5, not an 8.8.

I don't think the 8.8" came out until 85 IIRC

In researching I found some land speed guys saying the early ones were 8.5” but the guts amd gears can be put into the 8.8 case much like the 9” and 9 3/8”

I have what I believe to be 2.73 gears in my 1999 Mustang GT. I used a rough calculation with the GPS speedometer and a web calcualtor. I have already bought a stock 3.27 to put in. You're welcome to them for the cost of shipping, as soon as I get them swapped. I miss having an accurate speedo!

I may be in Cromwell, Ct in a week or 2.  We may need them for our drag car.  The 3.27s are too steep.  We will try a set of 3.08s next.

FYI. the 8.8 was introduced in 1983 in some trucks and in the Mustang in '86.

I am going to try and see if my mechanic can swap them out while I am on vacation. If I can, they are yours for free. They should be 2.73 ratio, per my calculations. I will let you know when I can have them done.

I've got a Mustang GT rear end and it's a 2.73 ratio.

I would take 2.47:1 or 2.50:1 gears for a 9" rear also.

Hi Wheels,

I sent out an email, but it bounced back. Anyhow, I didn't want to call now, as I am in California, and it is super late for EST. Anyhow, turns my mechanic friend I was going to have swap my gear for me is in the hospital. He won't be available to swap my gears, so I will have to do it myself. On that note, as soon as I get it done I would be happy to ship them to you via Fed Ex. I will pay the shipping, as my job gets a very good rate with them. The bad part is, my Mustang refuses to run. I will try to get them done as soon as I can, though.

Again, I am so sorry. Things are not going well on my end, life has been kicking the crap out of me and my friends and family as of late.
