With information from the ECOModder forums, We'll be following much of their advice on how to make our Transit Connect more aerodynamic.

I've been speaking with a buddy of mine who lives in Nc. We've known each other for a very long time. Now if you'd ask me ages ago if he would be working the automotive industry, I would have said no way.. But yes way. These last few years he's been working in his own shop that specializes in mustangs.  His main interest is body kits so I thought best to contact him about the Maxton design front splitter for our 2020 Connect.

He asked for me to send him the hardware that came with the splitter and afterwards, he came to the realization that this hardware would not hold up. So we'll have to visit his favorite resource for the correct hardware.  Also, he says he's going to use panel bond as well as the hardware to attach the front splitter.  According to the panel bond directions it will take at least 24 hours to cure.  So we'll be take our time and play it safe around town and return home in a few days there after.

Just so you know, this is one of my buddy's latest projects and from my understanding, he's going to put a coyote engine in this.

Mean while, I just got word that a race track has granted me permission to run the van on the track for a few laps.. How ironic.. install a splitter and hit the track all in the same weekend. My main goal here, is to bring down the front end after installing a bad set of rear lowering springs. But with the eventuality of the new slightly taller/stiffer springs being installed, we would end up with either a level stance or a very pronounced forward rake.

Next and while there, I'm going to see what he can do about adding some extended side skirts tot he van as the 19'' wheels have lifted the van a few inches and I feel we're getting to under chases turbulence.  he may end up removing the factory side skirts and keeping them while redesign something for us. Then we'll return to his shop when the project has been completed.

In this image, it shows a heat shield behind the vertical muffler.. with a vertical muffler.. this too could be causing some turbulence. We've since removed the heat shield and now we're investigating that dual exhaust set up. We may resort to something like what the Ford Fusion has or alternative.

Next I'll need to locate a factory dual exhaust for the van as the single pipe is tucked up under the rear of the van isn't very attractive or breathable. After removing the spare from under the van 3 years ago, this left us with a large space to install a better muffler system. Then we may add a rear defuser.

What size wheels and tires were on the van, and what size are on it now?

OE: 16x6.5 ET50 215/55/R16 97H XL

AM: 19x8.5 ET40 245/40/R19 98W XL

I've never taken a measurement of the before and after. But there is a difference in the current ride height as compared to the OE stance.

https://www.wheel-size.com/calc/?wheel1=215-55-16X6.5ET50&wheel2=245-40-19X8.5ET40&fcl=2in&wcl=1.25in&scl=2in&sr=0in

The 16in wheel / tire is 25.3in tall. The 19in combo is 26.7in tall. a difference of 1.4in in diameter, indicating that you raised the rear of the van approximately 0.7in.

It's also interesting that the 19in combo is 16lbs heavier EACH! That's significant and will negatively affect performance.

The only drawback performance wise is that the van will not win any drag races nor was it intended to do so. It was designed with a better performance suspension in mind..  Otherwise, there's no other performance issues with the van as you've suggested.

The suspension will work harder to keep the tires in contact with the ground. It will also take more time and more distance to accelerate from x speed to y speed. Braking distances will also suffer.

But other than that, you're golden!

All that being said, many people knowingly take those trade-offs to have a better looking vehicle. I'm definitely one of them!
