Love the IH, reminds me of one I rolled around for a short while:

Looking forward to seeing this build!

Taking a $300 chance on a untested 2006 6.0l LS. I was hoping it was Gen IV with square port L92 heads, but it is Gen III cathedral port 317's. I will pull it apart and have a looksee.

I really want a little forged stroker kit. The single turbocharger I am going to use is a 88mm Comp turbo. There are many stroker kits out there in 4.00" and 4.125" stroke which would be too big. CHP has several based on a 3.90" stroke which would be around 392-396ci. (Stock 6.0l is 3.62). I would love to be able to spin it to 8,000 without worrying about it coming out the bottom. A de-stroked 377" or the 383" kits are also a consideration, but 396" has a certain magic about it.

Wait. Turbo. LS 6.0 liter being stroked. Forged Internals. Awesome Old IH Pickup. In the same sentance?

get those wheel centers put into a 17x9 rim so you can have good rubber *and* bitchin' caps!

New LS3 heads arrived. Jegs $315.00 each delivered. I'd say that is a bargin.

I just checked again and they have gone up to $325.00 each, so $650 plus $10.99 shipping/handling. They always price match if you can find them cheaper. Anyway new price is $31 total more than I paid.

I will add; the LS3 valves are too big to fit on a stock 4.8l, 5.3l or a 5.7l ls1. You need a 4.0"+ bore block. They also take 8 offset rocker arms, which are about $128.00 new.

Not to take away from you thread. . . but I'm thinking 6L block and pistons + 4.8L crank and rods (on the shelf)

But still . . . less than 8 Cs for loaded LS3 heads isn't bad (especially when 243 heads that need servicing go for $500)

Keep the ideas coming. I like the discussion. I sure have thought about a short stroke something?, but there are several threads out there that talk me out of it.

I want to really spin it without worrying about stock rods and pistons, crankshaft?. If it was a 4.8l or 5.3l (nearly free here in Atlanta) I would not worry at all. But this is a good foundation for a "good" LS big cubic inch motor. I also have enough heads and intake.

For $2k I can buy a complete forged rotating assembly, great rod bolts, bearings, and rings. ARP mains are another $160. Billet main caps are overkill, but add another $350.00 and $500.00 for machining. That is under $3k for a reliable, bulletproof block. That is the way I am leaning......mid size stroker, 8,000 rpmish.

I want one of those intakes so badly, to use as a base for a 6-71 blower. Plenty of height under that hood.....

Gas, I know you're local to me, where on earth did you find that truck? That's fantastic! And the idea of a big inch turbo small block makes me all kinds of happy, but poor Vanette looks a little sad in the background...

In reply to ultraclyde:

I spend too much time on Craigslist. It just popped up for sale in Canton GA. I called within a few minutes of it being posted and was trailering it home in the rain a few hours later.

Vanette is coming along slowly. I keep going back and forth about what direction to build it. I think about using it (Vanette) to pull the car trailer and doing away with truck.

I have the 300 EFI 6 ready to go in it with a ZF 5 speed, but on Craigslist there is a guy with a Ford 401 inline 6 turbo diesel and Allison transmission out of a Ryder truck. That would be pretty sweet.

I have a turbocharger that would work with the 300 gas burner, but the wiring harness is Speed Density. From what I have read the guys that added a turbo add bigger injectors up from the 12lb injectors (I never knew injectors were made that small) to the SD system have constant driving issues. I think that the California 300 trucks/cars were Mass Air and all 1996 300's were Mass Air. That was the last year for the 300?. I am hoping I run up on a 1996 Mass Air donor

Then the next decision with the Vanette is to lift it a little bit and add a 1979 Dana 60 4X4 axle up front or bag and drop it.

What to do??? If I was smart I would get off my ass and throw the 300 in there, ZF 5 speed, divorced Ford NP205 and 4X4 dana 60. I have those parts sitting ready to go.

401 Ford turbo diesel....
