Got the frame side of the motor mounts tacked in place, and pulled the motor/trans out to finish weld them.

looking great! We did those old motor mounts in 30 minutes and laughed the whole time. I don't think we even measured to make sure the engine was square in the car. You are doing a much nicer job!! : ) I hope to see it there!!

What is the plan for left side exhaust? That was the reason the engine was so far forwards, clearance with the steering column.

Yes I noticed that it is a little tight there. I have access to a very rusty set of used f body headers that I may have to hack up and repurpose.  That is to be determined at this point. Thanks for the positive comments!

Also yesterday I removed the transmission pan, brazed shut the drain hole the junkyard punched in it, back flushed the filter and reinstalled everything.

Rested yesterday, started back on things today. Got some more work done on the stand alone harness this morning. Then went back to the left header, made a clearance dent in the number 1 header tube.

Took most of the morning to get to this point. Cyl1 tube needs to be cut and modified as the is not quite enough steering shaft clearance. Cyl3 is good as is, cyl5 will work now and cyl7  tube is part way made. This stuff is rusty enough that I can tack it with the MIG but weld it better with the ox/acetylene torch.

Keep it up. I'm here to tell you there's no shame in overlapping tacks with the MIG on something like that.

In reply to obsolete :thanks for the encouragement and advice! Part of the problem is that the wire that I am running in my MIG welder is .035, a little too heavy for this type of work. I may drop down to .030 on my next spool. .023 would be great for work like this, however much of the stuff I normally weld is heavier.

I had very little shop time yesterday. I am trying to make up for it today. Finished the left header. I consider myself a form follows function guy however l can't every recall being this happy to complete something this hideous! I don't think it will fall apart and it clears the steering shaft.
