Nice car! I'm excited to see how it works out for you. How many miles do you anticipate driving it?  Hard to see how you can lose at this point!

Oh damn Robbie, how many Jags you have now?

What sized wheels and tires are on that thing?  I love the look, it's the antithesis to 35 series sidewalls on 20"+ rims.

Two. But the seller of this red one has connected me up with a young man who drives the tow truck at a local shop who was gifted a non-running xj8 and he can't figure out what's wrong so it's been sitting at the shop for months. So naturally I'm going to text this person to see if he is ready to be done with jag ownership. That would be mostly to grab a few spares for my xjr and then part out the rest however.

15s, 215/70 tires. I love the way the wheels look too.

Not that many. Currently we put about 7k per year on our XJR and 13ish on our minivan. So this would take on maybe 2-3k per year from one of those two.

I don't really have a commute per say, and my wife commutes only a few days a week. So mileage will be light, but I really hope to use this frequently for short fun family trips this summer (ice cream, pool, BBQs, errands, etc).

I think two Jags, or two of any British vehicle, is the tipping point. You get another, just for parts. Then you start finding more and more. All of a sudden, you have five, and more show up randomly in the middle of the night. People hear about it, and drop them off while you're not home. They've forged your signature on the title. You start to drown in british cars, and tweed... where did the tweed come from? Why are you wearing driving gloves, and drinking Warm Brown Beer? You've developed an unnatural hatred for the French. Then, the EPA comes after you for the environmental damage you're causing by the leaking fluids. You're forced to sell the house and the cars to pay the fines, eventually your wife and family leave you as you wander the streets looking for someone to buy your 17th Jaaaaag, but you come across another for sale that is a good deal...

Be careful, it is a slippery slope.

My wife asked me if we were going to become the Jaguar family, and then said she was ok with that in the same breath. So it's really not my fault.

Edit, I should probably send her out to frenchy's house (in the hopes that I'd get to tag along too) just so she can be quite sure what she is getting into. Talking with my Canadian uncle last night about EVs, I've already caught myself saying things like "batt-tree" instead of "batt-er-y". It's really already a lost cause.

Glutton for punishment I see. I can't talk, I don't exactly have the most simple euro lux cars either. What color ext/int is the xj8? I may need parts for my xjr too.

I cannot say the word "batt-er-y" if I say "boat" immediately before it. A car battery, phone battery, 9-volt, etc., are all "batt-er-y", but a boat battery is a "Boat Bat-Tree"

That was my problem back in the 1980’s&90’s . People knew I was a racer and would take rusty cars for their mechanical bits.

They’d start out the conversation about how much they’d spent on the car. Knowing some of the shops they were at I understood that it was just making mortgage payments for the owner, not repairing the car.

When they finally got around to feeling me out about what I would pay, I’d try to be as kind as I could but at one point I had more than 20 good V12 engines and no need for anymore.

I started out paying $300 for them as long as they were the early ones. Within a few months I stopped paying anything for them. The HE’s were worthless to me.  by 2000 I refused to allow free ones to be dropped off anymore.

I’m glad prices are on the rebound.

My daughter's new basic, tiny Fiesta came with 16" rims and 50 series tires.  Times have changed.

Ok, I think it's time to move this thread to build threads section! Mods, please?

Also I had some time to poke around more closely with a jack last night. I'm making a list of things I would like to address over time, in hopes of bringing this from a #4 car to a #3. Here's what I found. (All you rusterners, get ready to feast your eyes!)

#1. Need a battery tie down. PO lost it, and this battery is just sitting there. This battery might even be slightly too tall (I hope not). I'll check eBay and forums to source a used one.

#2. Brakes/mechanicals. Front brakes are good but I should get new upper and lower ball joints (torn boots), as well as wheel bearings (I can feel some play) and sway bar endlink bushings. If I'm doing that stuff I might as well do new rotors and pads. At the rear I need new pads for sure and one rotor is questionable (DOH!!). The trailing arm bushes are also starting to show cracks.

#3. This does not look factory.

#4. There was a brake fluid leak or spill. I'll see if I can fix this up to prevent rust.

#5. Only bit of underside rust I found so far. I'll look to stop this in it's tracks.

#6. This rear quarter is dented up, like someone backed up onto a curb or something. I might be able to massage it back down. Good news is you can't see it while standing so if my repair sucks no one will know.

#7. Paint correction. There is some poor touch-up on the fender, a few scratches on the 'wing', some tiny rust bubbles by the headlights, and a few dents on the rear door. I've never really worried about stuff like this so it will be fun to learn how to fix.

#8. Both fog lights and this tail light are cracked. Should be easy to replace after I source some parts. Are the fog lights even factory? They have nice black plastic covers.

#9. Ug. I feel like this repair will be very frustrating.

#10. Moving inside, I want to breathe some life back into the leather. This has been repaired before, maybe I can improve it?

#11. Also lost, the passenger fuse box cover. They look cheap on eBay.

#12. This plastic is cracked.

General items without pics:

#13. Detail car. Shine chrome, clay bar, polish, wax, etc.

#14. Headliner needs viagra.

#15. Gas tanks need figured out.

#16. Stereo is not original, and power antenna is inop.

#17. Probably should get new tires.

#18. Need new wiper blades.

The stray Bosch relay is from the kit of the aftermarket Bosch fog lights.
You want to hear something crazy...I think I have a set of genuine late '80's Bosch Fog lights.  The unopened package, still new.

They are in my inlaw's pole barn.  I'm not sure I want to offload them.  I always held on to them to use some time on something cool.  I had a set on my '83 Rabbit (sold in 1990) and I've probably had them ever since.

Some other general pics. Overall the car is in amazing shape!

And I couple things I like so far:

Jaguar was nice enough to label the engine wiring harness for me.

The car really was sold at Mecum. How's that for provenance?

I thought they might be aftermarket as well, but this leads me to believe otherwise:i don't see where other fogs would be fitted. I could see maybe this was a dealer add on kit or something however.

Also, I just noticed the build date: 9/86. I was born 6/87. Or nine months after 9/86. laugh this makes me unreasonably happy.
