Well, the DC Rallycross on Sunday has been moved back two weeks due to weather- much like the rallysprint also moving back, it's a little bit of a bummer but better than racing in a mud pit.

I was "full speed ahead" on this car for so long that it feels weird to just have it sitting waiting for an event to happen.

ROADTRIP!

Deal's Gap or The Devil's Triangle on rally tires!

(wait, no, that would be a bad idea, unless you are a fan of replacing tires for no good reason)

Ditto. Well, I mean my car has been sitting waiting for like 2 weeks, but now I'm literally inventing projects on it just to kill the next 2 weeks. You know people always post memes on the rally pages making fun of NASCAR and stuff for not running in the rain.....sometimes I feel like rally/rallycross cancels stuff even more often - especially our DC venues that just cannot handle any real amount of rain.

Well, we had a sort of lousy evening last night.  We took this car to go get Easter dinner at our friend's restaurant and somebody turned left from the oncoming lane and hit us- I drove to avoid it as much as possible but we're going to need a headlight, fender, door, strut insert, and some quarter panel repair at a minimum.  Should be fixable and everyone is OK, I drove the car home.  I'm not posting any pictures yet, insurance claims are filed, just bummed out.

Argh. On the bright side, i guess if you're going to get in an accident might as well do it in a caged car :/

Nope, looks like it's all just sheet metal and behind-sheet-metal pieces.  This wasn't the test I wanted for how it would take a hit on stage, but it seems to have fared pretty well all things considered.

Turning yesterday's misfortunes around and now instead, can make a fool of ourselves all over the internet.

ANY%. It's somewhere on Facebutts. Somewhere on Instagram (anypercent__). Slowly building a website to archive our shenanigans. The real juicy stuff will always be here on GRM.

Social media post -

"Chris and I have been adventuring together since Day 1.

We got engaged after an epic rally in our RX7, we left our wedding ceremony in our Merkur (which promptly broke), and we completed our cross country honeymoon trip in a rented Penske moving truck after our old RV blew up in New Mexico… since we’re still a team after all that, safe to say we should keep pushing for more.

After an "Easter-dinner-transit-stage" fender bender mishap last night, we're in a holding pattern waiting for parts.

That won't stop our excitement to announce that along with the new stage rally car, we’re finally giving our team an official identity. Where will that go? Who knows, but let’s start with fun stories and grassroots racing.

We're calling it ANY% based on the concept of "any percent" speedruns in video games - where you get to the goal by any means necessary rather than trying to do every possible step along the way.  It’s our shorthand for doing as much as possible with whatever resources are available.

We will be driving under the new banner and new number #986 at the Southern Ohio Forest Rally in June and possibly some small test events leading up to that! We hope to have our friends and community following along.

Sara, Chris and our crew of critters "

TI finally L what "any%" means.

*hitches onion to belt* Back in my day we just called those "speedruns", not getting 100% completion was assumed...

OK so now that insurance seems to be squared away, a brief summary.  Dude in a Focus turned from the oncoming lane and hit us, admitted fault, but only has $5k of liability coverage.  I can figure out how to fix this for $5k.

Here's the initial damage at the scene, the front wheel took most of the impact right at the top.  It drove home just fine with a little extra camber from a bent strut:

The VW wheel held up great (TUV specs for the win I guess?) as did the reinforced control arm.   Bent parts removed at home, you can see the insert is now a banana:

Looks like the housing bent too, but at least this proves my welds are stronger than the other parts of the system:

So I need a headlight, the core support stuff behind it, fender, liner, door, and some little bits and pieces.  Should probably replace the knuckle and the wheel bearing too and keep this one as a spare.  Parts to put together a new strut are on their way as well, I'll try to straighten this housing to keep as a spare.

Here's the part I'll need to just pay a body shop for:

The worst of it being this little crease/tear:

Whatever, I'll make this work- wish I was getting more money from insurance so I could just hit the easy button and let a shop do everything, but that's not really my style anyway.  GRM and rally community are pulling through big time to help, you guys are all the best.  This was a good, if unwanted, test of how the car would fare in an on-stage incident- technically, in a 30 minute service, we could have stuck a new strut on it and sent it back out, ugly but running.
