Of course it is possible. Ford did it, didn't they? Good luck!

In reply to Bobzilla: you seem to know alot so please inform me why, all i want to know is if its possible to do an engine swap to an cosworth engine with possibly 4x4 and new gearbox.

All you have to do is stick an AWD Sierra Cosworth under your Escort - after all, that's what Ford did.

Should only take a few weekends.

The Cossie Escort has basically nothing to do with the Escorts that came to the USofA. Do you have the Mazda Chassis Escort or are you in a part of the world with the Euro Ford escort? Basically which 1.8 liter do you have, the Zetec or the Mazda BP?

i think without doing an entire floor pan swap from a cosworth car it wont work. So it is possible, just requires a huge amount of work

There was also an Aussie Ford Escort that shared the same general body styling as our 90's Escort GT, but had the AWD & drivetrain from the Mazda 323 GTX. I can't find it online right now though.

Why am I reminded of that time somebody asked the guy with the Miata suspended Datsun 520 how he got Miata brakes to fit?

"Mine just bolted right up"

Someone made an awd tracer. For cheap. We all know the BP can be made a bp-t for about free. The wildcard is the transmission. Though if my brain is half right, cribbing parts out of the non-existent 323gtx would make the awd easy. I would ask my bg chassis guru, but he's playing miatas.

The short answer is, yes you can make a bg chassis Escort turbo+awd. No, it will not be a cosworth. Even getting a real cosworth engine would make the venture stupid expensive.

I have a complete 323GTX driveline laying around...

Even the gas tank with the hump in the middle too!

it would be less work to convert a mk1 focus using mk1 escape parts

Rufledt, Yep, the whole thing including front and rear subframes, Dirtras, and driveshaft. I basically dropped it out of my GTX when I had to put it out of its rusting misery. The trans needs a syncro but the diff works.
