Satan Claus coming to C-town garage?
Went to IKEA today and thought about dropping by. Thought better of it.
Nice work dude!
Tonight we celebrated the Harvest of the Header Bends. Over the summer I picked up a cheap used set of "street stock" SBC long tubes with 1-1/2" diameter primaries, knowing all along I was just gonna chop em up. Some pieces will get used for coolant pipes, while others will be the off-port sections of my first home-built headers.

No way, another mid-engine Corvair?!?!
Yeah, Happy Birthday, guy, although I'm a day late now.
I don't always have much to add, but I'm always watching. Good Stuff.
Showed that second header what's up:
I also have a $20 set of turbo headers that would have worked pretty well as-is if they were mirror images, but they weren't, so they didn't. I'm chopping them up too. They've got thick flanges and the 1-1/2" pipes slip right in, so I'm going to make them stepped. Should have enough pipe to make them equal length and close to correct primary length. This will be my last update for a few days, as I have much Christmas stuff to do around the house.
On this day in MonZora history, in the year two thousand and eighteen, PimpM3 picked us up in the Corsa:
and took us meet this ornery berkeleying goose-duck thing:
and the C4 organ donor:
Despite her day-shift stripper appearance, she still ran like a prime-time performer, and we enjoyed the 1100-mile drive back to MI.
She drank 44 gallons of 87 (25mpg) and we feasted like kings:
and there you have it. Today begins Year 3 of this six-month build.

I still feel a little bad about laughing at your purchase. Well I feel bad about doing it right in front of you.

Hand polishing. His technique is exquisitely nsfw.

I LOL'd.
also, I'm pretty sure the tubes on the left are stainless because a magnet doesn't stick. The ones on the right were chrome plated when new, probably 40 years ago.
After reading this in the wee hours of the morning, it had me dreaming of mufflers, and I woke up exhausted.

03-Jan-2021, pondering how to make transition from D-shaped exhaust port to round header tube. Started by tracing exhaust gasket onto a block of wood, and immediately had a better idea. Decided to take a short piece of tube and split it lengthwise, off center, and make a hammer form to shape one end of the larger-than-half piece into the bottom half of the port shape. So, traced lower half of port and cut form with jig saw:
then clamped pipe and form in bench vise to form port floor:
then clamped with vise-grip and hammered free ends to shape:
End result is a pretty good fit to port shape:
Then took another short scrap and split it in half lengthwise for the top half. A little belt sanding and it's a pretty good fit:
it will require a little more work on the belt sander to close the gaps to TIGable range, but I'm really happy with how this proof-of-concept piece is turning out.
05-Jan-2021: finished up the header transition practice piece:
I'll take dimensions from this part and figure out how to cut the pieces repeatably so I don't have to do so much fiddling to get them to fit up nice. Header math says tri-Y with 17" primaries, 17" secondaries, a merge collector to a 2-1/4" choke, opening up to slip into either 2-3/4" to the C7Z06 mufflers or Y into a 3" single with no muffler. This will probably be the challenge config to take the $100 mufflers and pipes out of the budget.
