Driveability and tuning update.'

Fixed a leaking pan gasket, and replaced the O ring in the oil remote adapter, was leaking a lot of oil from the two, now it's nice and dry.

Inspected and tightened various bolts that had worked loose/were never tightened.

Rolled the front fenders with the aid of Chandler's roller, thanks again.

Changed the exhaust, found the rear to foul on the diff too much so we shortened it to turn downs in front of the rear axle, much simpler too work around and easier to get to the suspension.

Aligned the car, it now has 1.5 camber, 1/8" tow out and as much caster as I could gain. Tracks much straighter and turns in nicely.

Now it has much less banging and grinding going on, but still needs more front fender clearance.

Oh and it pulls like a train now.

This has been my runabout while the Mustang has been challenge prepped.

So much fun, car is a beast, pulls rpm like crazy, after the challenge I have to sort the rear suspension, do an interior update and paint it.

I love this car

Started on a couple of projects for this Winter

  1. Modifying the rear suspension from the flawed original design to an equal length upper control arm, floor will be boxed to fit the extra length.

  2. remove the tired watts linkage with 5 rubber flexible pivot points and install a panhard bar.

  3. Install a decent stereo system with Ipod, DVD and more,, I have the system which used to be in my Lincoln,

  4. Building a new gauge pod to fit in the original dash binnacle.

  5. Update the interior

  6. Paint the ugly shell

Rear end mods underway.

Step one, (done) Staggered and short upper control arms and factory watts linkage removed. Removed lowers and installed fresh poly bushings.

Step two, (done) Factory body mounts removed and the minimal fender well rust repaired. axle brackets modified.

Step three, Installation of aussiesmg designed equal length uppers and panhard bar underway.

I am retaining the Mazda rear axle for now pending a significant failure, apparently many have stood up well while others have sploded spectacularly.

Nice! Have you considered a 3 link? Easier to set up than a 4 link, says the guy who built one for his rotary Jensen project. Needs only a single box along the top of the RX7 trans tunnel. GForce Engineering built a setup that is easily duplicated. http://www.gforceengineering.net/products.htm They are out of business, but it's easy to see how they designed theirs.

What's funny is the gforce was right up the road from him ; before Jim retired.

Need this back on the road!

Did you make the covers over your rear links removable?? It looks like you can't service or remove your rear links now with the covers on...

Found the trans leak that has been plaguing this car, the Tremec tail cover was leaking at the seam. The gasket had failed, removed the gasket and just used silicone sealer, so far that has worked.

The rear end is finished.

The exhaust has been tucked up closer.

The gauges should be done in the next couple of days.

Then it gets driven for a while dammit
