Sold the rims and the old tires to a young enthusiast with a mini cooper.  I cut him a good deal to get them out of my garage.  Circle of life.

kinda update.....

Looking for wheels and tires for this summer's autox and track day season..  Need to really plan out what I'm going to do here.  Found some Konig's with Star Spec's on them that look completely unused for $600..  Will go see them next week when I am in the area for work.

konigs mounted. Ready to go.

Need to polish it to see if I can bring back the paint. Haha. Maybe get some rattle cans of the right color eventually.

also. I want to autox but the first one here has 130 people signed up for it. It gives my wife anxiety to do so.  So. We will have to wait. Or wait for a track day.

The purpose of this car is to learn how to drive on the track. If that dose the start happening soon I'll sell it.

Well...

I decided to do a thing.  The paint on the car is heavily oxidized. so I bought This polisher .  I read a bunch of forums and watched videos on paint correction, but I didn't want to go with a heavy compound or polish.  The paint is pretty cracked, it's pretty oxidized, but how thick is it..

So I played it safe with some Cleaner wax... Meguairs Mirro Glaze #6..

The trunk and rear bumper was about the worst of the car..

So I decided to do an A/B test on the top of the trunk,

This is before...

Here is the polish drying up..

Well.. that worked..  A little too well

Half way on the bumper.. it's amazing the change.

Drivers door was bad, see how dull it is.

Not Anymore

I'll take a beauty shot later..

For some reason your pics aren't showing, which really sucks because I remember how bad the paint looked 6-years ago & I'm sure it's only gotten worse.

Pics also aren't opening.

It's certainly better.  I don't think it's "saved" but it's a lot better now. The car has cleaned up nice.

now to find and fix the oil leak on the front end of the motor and figure how to get color matched spray to work on the finish panel, rear bumper and pass side qp.  Some of the paint has fallen off due to 1990's quality.

In reply to Fueled by Caffeine :

Is the oil leak down low? There's not many places it can leak on the front other than the valve cover, crank seal, or possibly oil pan.

Low on the front as far as I can tell. When I pulled the crank pulley it didn't seem like it was coming from front main.

when I get back from vacation the car will have a trip to the quarter car was and and I'll clean the front of the engine. Then I'll really find out.

A bit more investigation of the oil leaks. It's leaking from just sitting.  The sensor for the timing wheel up front is covered in oil and sludge. The ac bracket bolt above it was slightly loose once I cleaned it.

oil is on passenger side of the motor. The drain plug doesn't look like it's leaking. Maybe the remote oil filter?  I'll try to get in there and clean it more.

what does a bad front main look like?  Oil is dripping from the passenger side a arm bushings/mount points

In reply to Fueled by Caffeine :

FWIW I never replaced the front main seal, so unless mtn or nocones did, it's probably original.

I really want a play car that allows my whole family to ride and me to have fun..

Thanks for the memories.
