After posting about my last challenge car, a desire to do more with my cars, and enjoy my hobbies more, I thought I'd start a thread to track my progress. I've been getting into the garage and wrenching more which is good. It's enjoyable, fun and seems productive.
I had two 944s (one N/A and one turbo) before buying my first 911, a 2000 C2. I bought this car to celebrate the end of child support payments to my ex-wife. I still see my son as often as his work schedule allows and pay for his medical, dental and will pay for his college if he goes back and passes. I may take him to my next private welding class to see if he is interested in that. His interst in cars consists of keeping his Focus on the road, and we do some of that together when needed. I know if something happens with it, I will get a call immediately.
So here is the 2000 C2.
She has 85K miles, the rare factory M030 sport suspension (US spec of course), full leather, and had the IMS bearing and clutch serviced by the PO. The BSA wheels are gone and she now wears HRE 547s which I got on sale (they were factory refurbished and the owner decided he wanted a different wheel). I also have Apex SM10s with sticky tires for other things.
I've owned several NA Miatas and one convertible SN95. I've also had a Vette with T tops and another with the removable hard top (Porsche would call it a targa top). I love top down driving. As a result I decided I needed a Boxster. Like most of you, I am always trawling the internet looking for my next car (fish). I found a 2000 Boxster S in a rare color, speed yellow, and checked it out. I traded off my last Corvette (a black 91 ZR-1) and drove it home.
Here is the Boxster.
Both photos were snapped in front of the office at work for insurance. Collector car insurance will save you a small fortune if not using your car as a daily driver.
I've always liked Porsche 944s. The look is so influenced by Audi and isn't all Porsche. The 944, particularly in turbo or S2 form has the most angular lines of any Porsche, ever. Just look at those hard edges. No other Porsche has them. These cars just look right. I was trolling Craigslist and found this rare 944 S2 in Austin. For those that do not know, the S2 is unique in that it has a 3.0L 16 valve DOHC 4 cylinder. I had never driven an S2, but the reviews are correct its far more potent and enjoyable than the 2.5L SOHC four of the regular 944. It's honestly a lot like the turbo until 4500 rpm then it's rev happy, whereas a turbo is YEEHAW at that rpm. It's almost as quick as the turbos. This car needs the most work and will likely receive the most modifications of my three, eventually.
Here is the rough looking but complete 944 S2.
Getting engine pics of the 996 or 986, not so good, but a 944 can have enging photos!
In my next post, I will update with what I've done this past two weeks and what I plan to do for each car in the near future.
Nov 2020 update
944S2 is sold and 2002 Subaru RS is aqcuired for rallyX.
This means my fun car world is flat now.
