I've got the winter/"quarantine" boredom, figured I'd post my build here since I'll basically be rebuilding the car this Winter/Spring.

I have a 1989 240SX Coupe that I bought in 2015 to LSx swap. It's been through several iterations but it currently has a L33 aluminum 5.3L "LS1" style GM V8 and a F-Body Camaro T-56. It also has a R33 GTS-T Skyline (basically an S14) rear subframe, GKTeck drop kunckles, adjustable arms, Koni 86xx shocks, GC coilovers, Twin Turbo Z32 Brakes, all that jazz. Currently on 275/285 200TW tires on 18x9.5 Enkei TS-Vs. It's mainly just a fun project but I run it in XSA Autocross class and it's my main HPDE/Time Trials car.

Going to install a "built" (just bolt-on really - CNC ported heads, Cam, etc.) 5.7L C5 LS1, going to install widebody parts and paint the car, get a half or full cage, and go up to 10.5" wheels. Considering moving to the 315 RT660 tire for this year as well. Hope to see some of yall on track in Texas this year!

Great looking car! Does it drive as well as I hope it does in my mind?

Nothing special, just your run of the mill truck engine (Here's an old pic):

I need to tidy up some things in the engine bay when the engine is out. The PO had moved some stuff around and I wasn't very proficient at wiring at the time.

I like to think so!

Here's a video of it ripping around a freshly repaved ECR last year. I think I was running 2:15s?

Welcome to the forum buddy!

glad to see you post more info about your cars here since you're one of the most GRM people I know!

Ordered these widebody parts in November, and they finally showed up a few weeks back. My winter upgrade plans got scrapped because of the delay, and so I just had the widebody parts painted. Noticed Falken made a wide 17" RT660 (275) so I bought some 17x9.5 RPF1s for the car to run this year. Hoping to run their 18" 315 eventually but I don't think they'll fit under the +50mm widebody panels. Not sure what to do about that.

The car felt decent at the autocross, but wasn't super fast - I found out my shocks were set up weird (soft in the front, stiff in the back) so I changed that for the TNiA yesterday. Not Apples vs. Apples since I've never had sticker tires on my car but I went over 4 seconds faster for my personal best out at my local track.

Hoping to get the front splitter installed this weekend and drop some more time

It's too bad so many of these end up as drift missiles. I hear they actually handle really well for grippy driving, which is what I'd prefer to do with one. So many swap options, too.

Grippy they are. Many end up as drifters, but it's just not what the chassis was designed for imo.

Hey!  We're almost twinning! I swapped mine in 2015 as well, love the color :-)

Great to see another track oriented S13.  As you know, so many get turned into drift turds, its rare to see a track oriented build.

I have a few questions for you on the build as I am entertaining some of the same mods you have presently.

1) GKTeck drop kunckles, adjustable arms,

  • Did you like the quality of these pieces?  Did you do the entire kit front and rear? I am considering doing the entire car with the GKTech stuff.

2) Koni 86xx shocks, GC coilovers

  • Did you get custom housing work done to slip in the Koni's?  I would love to see pics of the coilover setup and hear your insights.

Looking great man, keep doing a good job representing us!

I love these cars!  A friend of mine had a 4WS version back in high school.  It's too bad the drift tax on them is so high!  I would love to have one.
