Thanks. Unfortunately, neither my or my friend Murray Man have the talent or focus that Mr InKansas has, so this will be an adventure for us all!

Question? When I get Charlie loaded tomorrow, and get it’s fuel stop pic. , do I start a new build, or continue on the one John shows how it all started?

As trips like this tend to go, it’s been interesting. My wife decided that she wanted to go along, so I took Thursday night off, as well as Friday. Took Big Red to work wens-day night and put the shulastic spring hangers (from an earlier truck)  on after work (2am)... finished; truck wouldn’t start... finally got it started (6:30am). Slept 8-10. 11:00 went to appointment to get front tires on truck... 3 trips later finally got done at 5:00! We were gonna leave around 5 or 6, drive most of night. Finally left at midnight. We plan ahead, and sleep in truck on trips like this; I’m so blessed to have a great travel partner. I do all the driving, but it’s great to have my co-pilot along.

First road trip in Big Red - 03 F350 4wd club cab long box 6.0. Bone stock 134K. Doing great, but only 11 mpg. But that is including idle time. Been running since midnight Thursday night.

Late start, but doing ok. Then, at a fuel stop, I pulled around for us bot to use the facilities, and then walk the dogs. I carry a key in my pocket so we can leave running, and lock the dogs in... after I locked and closed doors she says “you have key right?”  I say yes, and pat my pocket. But it ain’t there! E36 M3! AAA call...

Middle of nowhere, so was going to be 90 min. Fortunately they made it in an hr, and when the lock guy got there we were joking about telling the dog to unlock the door. I looked at lock and did a double take! One of the dogs had jumped on the arm rest and unlocked it. Back on the road!

I'm thinking some simple training could get them to unlock the doors on command. You know just in case you ever need that.

We took the “little brown dog” for some training by a top military handler in MS, but we let her get away with too much, so she’s too smart to fall for the simple training it should take. WAY to excited to figure that small switch out!

but looks like I need to wire in a disconnect for the door switches - or when we lock truck to go eat, she’s gonna unlock it for the bad guys!!!

When Lil Stampie was young I'd unlock my Suburban from the passenger side, hit the power door locks and start it up to get AC going while I put him in his seat in the back.  One day somehow the doors got locked after I put him in his seat. I had to call his mom with the spare key to come unlock it. Whole time he's staring at me like wtf dude why aren't you getting in.

Well, we haven’t done anything with Charlie yet, but there’s a story..

https://dothan.craigslist.org/wto/d/newton-1947-f1-pickup/7084742516.html

Acquaintance near me passed away, his wife put this 49 (not 47) up for sale for 1200, right after I agreed to give Charlie a good home.  Wasn’t gonna let Charlie go, but been watching the price drop

I finally got a chance to stop by, and look at how bad it was; she remembered me, and that I had been interested (10 yr ago!)

I hadn’t got to look at it much; just visiting, and commiserating, figuring I could only offer 500, and not sure it was worth dealing with at that, when she said “give me $300... I’m ready to not see it in my yard “

So...

now mark and I have my 48 COE to fix, his 4wd to finish, and a F1 to make a jalopy with

whew ...

Well, with the current craziness, the deal on the parts truck did not come together, but that might be good news! I am at least blessed to still be working, even though I had to get the Gob'ments permission! Sad day when a natural born American has to have a signed permission slip to go off his own land.
