I bought this Protege from a friend a few years back, fixed the transmission and it has been sitting since. It starts up, runs and drives but it may need some tuning to get it back to where it was. The car is great and I wish I had more time to drive it but it just isn't getting used like it should and is taking up space.

Here are the details:

It is a 2002 Protege that was purchased from Mazda as a white body. David DelGenio @ Driven Performance built and setup the car for World Challenge (Touring class) and was used in 1 race. Most recently the car was raced in in SCCA EP/ITE. This purpose built Mazda Protege was designed and constructed to be a championship winning car. Over $60,000 worth of racing equipment and professional labor was invested. The car was raced only once at Sebring, in the 2004 seasons first event of the SCCA SPEED World Challenge Touring Car Championship series. The original chassis procured from the manufacturer comes without a title and has no VIN. The car can only be driven on the track. The car has never been damaged or abused in racing and it is excellent condition ready for its next competition. It could be raced in SCCA, AutoX-Solo2, NASA, or perhaps other classes? Everything installed in the car was new, first quality equipment and parts. The CAD-CAM design, chassis modifications, full roll cage, suspension and tuning bits, engine management systems, front air dam, etc. were all designed and constructed in collaboration with David DelGenio who is a well regarded Mazda race car setup expert in the Northeast. He owns and operates a race shop named Driven Performance in Acworth, New Hampshire. This car features: 4 cylinder, 240 hp motor by Sunbelt performance engines with uprated oversized oil pan, Motec engine control unit & electronic instrumentation, Pi Research System 1 data acquisition and logging system,Pi C-Dash analog electronic instrumentation,Ohlins fully adjustable racing shocks with external reservoirs, kill switch, roll cage, etc. exceeding specified requirements for most racing series. Set of four Kosei K-1 super light forged aluminum wheels. The total weight is ~2150lbs. The car is setup for sprint racing and does not have an alternator. It also does not have a fire system installed.

VERY cool! Wish I had a need for this, I love the Protege and can only imagine how great it would be set up like this. And 240 ho from an FS? Wow!

You probably have more of a need for it than I do. I don't have the space to hang onto 2 track only cars.

Reducing price to $6K. Its a steal for this car but I would like to see it out of my garage and into good hands.

Oh dang, this thing is sweet. If my Probe was a 4cyl, I'd want one of those engines to put in it. Heck, this has significantly more power than my V6 does!

I’m also open to trades. Looking for a BMW M3 or fun sports car with 4 seats. I need something a little more practical than a high strung race car.

It looks like an unassuming family car. It sounds like an insane GT car. It's so weird. I want it, but that one-off pro built motor absolutely terrifies me.
