I've had a few posts on this truck here before, mostly asking about 7.3-related problems. And this truck has had just about every 7.3 problem there is. In the 4 years I've owned it, it's accumulated (and I just tallied these last night) approximately $6000 in repair receipts.
Glow plugs, glow plug wiring harness, glow plug relay, starter, A/C system overhaul, alternator, 4 wheel drive hubs, complete front end overhaul, overhauled turbocharger, resealed timing cover, OEM cam position sensor, and much, much more!
In addition, I've replaced the batteries (dual, it also has dual alternators), installed new tires (BFG 265/85R16), put in a decent AM/FM/CD radio, added a 6 position tuner for fuel economy and towing settings, and changed the oil every 4000 miles.
The truck is finally a good truck. And now I'm selling it.
What?
I just don't drive it anymore. When I bought it, we were moving our whole clan from South Carolina to Maryland, and I needed something that would handle long highway drives and pull down decent fuel economy. And, by and large, the truck has been very good at doing that. It's also brought our car and all our gear to several LeMons races. But in the last year, I didn't even put enough miles on it to warrant an oil change (I did change the oil, anyway) and looking at a 5 figure truck sitting in my yard collecting pollen does not fill me with joy.
I have it listed for sale locally for $12,500. It's a rust-free southern truck, which up here commands a pretty good premium. The truck appears to have been partially repainted at some point - I have no idea why - and it's peeling and chipping in some places. I've used it like a truck, so the bed and tail gate are scratched in places and have some small dents. It's no show truck. But I see no reason why it shouldn't (now that I've paid for all the deferred maintenance the previous owners so kindly foisted upon me) run reliably for many more years. It's got 170,000 miles on it, doesn't smoke excessively, and doesn't seem to have significant blow-by.
So, if you think you'd use this truck, let me know and maybe we can work something out. I've been as brutally honest about the truck's condition and past as I can, 'cuz I like you all and don't want anyone to think I sold them a pile. I don't think it's a pile, at least not anymore, but its not brand new either and like any 16-year old vehicle it'll probably need something fixed at some point. But if that bothers you, then I'm sure your local Ford dealer will be happy to take 50 large for one of their new 6.7's.
Enough talk. Here's some pics:
