This car belongs to a good friend of mine. He bought it roughly 20 years ago and I was there with him and encouraged him on the purchase ... posting here to help him move it and to redeem myself as not an enabler in her mother's eyes.

This would be a great starting point for the challenge ... Car was extremely fast last time I rode in it. Pics below or in the ad.

Also just in case anyone is interested, the car comes with the factory ECU ... but for extra $ a Haltech standalone can be included. The car was tuned and running on the Haltech, he just pulled it in order to bring the price of the car down.

Two spare blocks and two spare heads available as well for extra $.

I don't need another DSM I don't need another DSM....

I spent 4 years of high school drooling over every article and road test of TSI AWD and the GSX.  This is almost like seeing a girl you dated in High School.

I'm not going to put a 15 year old boy in a DSM.  He might drive it like I would at 15.

Hmmm.  I'm intrigued.  Were they reliable at all in stock form?

I grew up about an hour from the plant & read all about them too. They hit the streets about the time I graduated. I had a 2G for a couple years in the late-90's, but always liked the 1G better.

Pretty much if taken care of...which many weren't.

OK, I'm usually pretty good at figuring out acronyms, but I'm having no success with "DSM"

Please enlighten! :-)

In reply to dettonator20 :

DSM is Diamond Star Motors and refers to the joint Mitsubishi and Chrysler venture in the 90's.  DSM cars are the 90's Eclipse, Eagle Talon, and Plymouth Laser, and more specifically the turbo AWD models.

Ohhh  right! I remember the joint venture and the cars, but forgot about the Diamond Star Motors name. With age comes....something, but I can't remember what! :-D

I thought the 4G63 was notorious for crank walk. If it really was a matter of giving it good care, I am (no sarcasm) interested to know what counts as being properly taken care of

oh and I'll never forget the sight of how these things just TAKE OFF

In reply to P3PPY :

IIRC it's the second gen DSM that's got crank walk issues, the first gen is supposed to be pretty unaffected by it.

Correct. Though it can be fixed in the 2G/7-bolt engines & probably has been if it's been rebuilt.

The car is gone guys. He had an insane amount of responses through FB, over 80/day.

Today someone came and picked it up. Sounds like its going to a good home.

Bought my son one of these for his first car.  An idiot mechanic attempting a timing belt, water pump job screwed it.  It was black on black and some guy from Washington State shipped it all the way from florida as a roller because it was so clean.

Aaand it's gone.  Pretty sure that's first clean-ish DSM I've seen in recent memory.
