Mine, affiliated...CEL came on this morning on my way into work...price drop again. No effect on driveability, going to look into it later, but I'm ready to move on now. Might trade it in if nobody's interested...

1999 528i touring. 204k miles as of this writing. Titansilber on dove grey. RARE factory 5-speed manual! Sport interior with EXTREMELY RARE E38 Sport Contour seats with the two-piece adjustable backrest! Body is a 7/10, interior 8/10. Starts, runs, drives, and shifts excellent. Does NOT have the problematic rear SLS! Also has the rare rolling cargo floor option for easy loading/unloading.

This has been my daily since January. Since then I have invested over $4000 into the car including but not limited to front thrust arms, MDK throttle body unit, CCV system, all new brakes, shift linkage rebuild, new trans/diff fluids, engine/trans mounts, SAI pump and valve, E-code lenses, EMP Stewart water pump and aluminum accessory pullies, timing chain tensioner spring and piston, new OEM plugs and oxygen sensors, valve cover gasket, and much more on top of that (I have all receipts and a log of maintenance performed). I also have ALL maintenance records from previous owners dating back to when the car came off lease at ~20k miles. Never failed emissions and have paperwork to prove. AC is ice cold, heat works excellent, heated seats are great as well.

No BS, this is what's wrong and what it needs: car has dings you would expect from a 204k car. Some slight rust bubbling around hatch edges (common on E39 tourings). Gas gauge hasn't worked since I got it; replaced the level sender, problem is now believed to be the cluster. Car is due for some suspension work (new front lower control arms included with sale) Very slight exhaust manifold gasket leak. None of these issues affect drivability; in the past month I have driven it to Upper Michigan and back, Madison, Green Bay, Chicago, etc with no incidents. Typical MPG is 25-26 all highway, 23 in mixed driving.

My asking price is $2800 FIRM, as I bought the car for $3200 and have invested over $4000 since purchase. I am going to lose money on this no matter what I do, but if I can't get that much out of it I will just keep it and continue fixing it up. The car is currently on factory steelies with Blizzaks; I have many extras listed for sale seperately (factory BMW roof crossbars, Style 66 17" wheels with virtually new summer tires) that I would include with the car for a grand total of $3500, still far less than my investment.

Dannggggg.. any interest in trading for a Lexus GS430? Much faster but auto only of course.

900 mile round trip to get this car. That's too far for me right now. Good luck, that's a cool car.

Damn that would be a good start for a M5 wagon replica for me. Luckily you are far far away.

My '01 manual 525iT already came w/ M5 front and M-technic touring rear bumper covers. I added the Hella xenons, recently got the non-rail EU roof moldings and restored the Style 5s (stripped/polished/cleared the barrels, blasted and plated the studs, detailed the centers) and got a set of KW coilovers. Final step will be swapping in an M54B30 (drops in, plug n' play!) and I'll have the facelift, manual 530iT they should have made.

M54B30 drops in that easy?

In a car w/ M54B25 it just falls in. Short block is direct swap, and evidently it'll run OK on the B25 DME flash.

I'm experiencing insanely heavy clutch effort - clutchmasters light steel flywheel and stage 1 to get around the dual-mass/self adjusting original stuff. Even a big-bore 850i clutch slave only helped a little. So if I need to R&R trans, I may as well pull the motor and trans same time and do it all.
