Over the nine years they made the Iso Grifo, the Italian automaker built a little more than 400 examples. Of those, just one convertible. This A3/L Spider is it, and it’s now up for auction at RM Sotheby’s.
After it was first built, it made its rounds at European auto shows, including at the 1964 Geneva Motor Show. There, a young Giorgetto Giugiaro, designer of iconic cars such as the BMW M1, DMC DeLorean and this car, served as a model behind the wheel.
Greg Garrison, a TV producer of series such as The Dean Martin Show and noted car collector, picked this car up. After that it exchanged hands with Rudi Klein and then sat for years. As it’s probably apparent, this Iso Grifo needs some recommissioning, but it’s certainly a one-of-a-kind piece that’s ready to dazzle as shows, just as it once did when it first appeared.
Find this 1964 Iso Grifo A3/L Spider Prototype by Bertone for auction at RM Sotheby’s, with an estimated value of $700,000-$1,000,000.
