Strange that all I found so far is a similar situation. The thread ends abruptly with the poster referring to his cruise control.
Does your cruise control work? I think it might run that.
My cruise control works fine. This couldn't possibly be a high-quality 90s Ford factory bolt, right?

Does the heating system work correctly?
All of the actuators are vacuum controlled.
I got rid of my 96 last year, or I'd go look.

Yes, in so much as hot air comes out of the vents when I ask it to. The "mix" setting seems pretty lame but I dont know if that's expected behavior or not. Like it doesn't push much air out of the dash vents. Plenty comes through on "vent" though.
