hello all. picked up some nice 5 spoke 99 (EDIT: 2001) wheels for the miata, only to discover they are 16's( i know nothing about miatas, thought they were 15's until the new ones). it has 15's on it now, with 205/60's, and the front rubs on hard cornering. what tire size would net me just a bit smaller overall diameter than a 205/60 R15, on a 16 inch rim?

If they're 16s, then they're off a 2001 or later. 99/00 came with 14x6 and 15x6. You're right that 205/60R15 is too tall -- stock tires are around 23 inches in diameter, and that one is 24.7. The stock size on those 16 inch rims was 205/45R16, whereas 195/50R15s were what Mazda usually put on 15" Miata wheels.

Stock Miata wheels are documented here: http://www.miata.net/faq/wheel_weights.html Note that the 16x6.5s are fairly heavy as Miata wheels go, at 15.5 lbs each.

Tire Rack shows a bunch of tires in 205/45R16, I'd probably buy the Bridgestone RE11s if it was my car. :)

i dont care about weight or performance, just proper fitment. the dime store rent-a-rim chrome garbage that's on there now would make a new Lambo look like $400 car. ANYTHING would look better.

anyways, if i understand, the 205/45R16 was the proper tire for the 01, but will that tire clear ok for the 91? or should i go smaller?

the wheels i have for reference:

195/50R16 will give you just a little more sidewall than 205/45

The 205/45-16 will fit fine.
