Needs to be quoted in the Say What column.

Rest area will suffice.

There shouldn’t be a need for that. I’m presently waiting at the bank for my appointment to pick up the check, and the salesman confirmed earlier he’ll be dropping off the Fit at 4pm - though I’m still having some doubt over that.

If a dealer somehow hides their fee till the last second or doesn't include it in a OTD or "drive out" price.. I understand people being miffed.

But being angry about a dealer charging a fairly reasonable $150 fully legal Document fee(which, fun fact, in the state of TX can legally be up to $375) for doing all the paperwork with the state on your behalf?
now we're just being pedantic.

The way I see it, an out the door price is an out the door price. Sure, some expenses on the bill are things that actually cost the dealer money, but if they've said a price is the total out the door, it needs to have all these things rolled into it to be what the dealer promised.

If a dealer actually used the "you're really going to beat us up over, $250?" line on me, I'd be tempted to reply, "Actually, I think I've changed my mind... if it's the same amount of effort, I'd prefer to beat you down another $500 instead."

"You're really willing to risk your reputation on $250?"

I worked at a Ford dealership years ago. Just washing cars, but good lord. What a hive of villany.

"you're really going to beat us up over $250?" - the irony being that they are already beating you up over $250.

We are in total agreement on what an out the door price is and the expectations that go with it.

But the phrase " we agreed on a price for the car" and "we agreed on an out the door price" are not one and the same.

If someone plays games with me or a friend I prepare them to walk as I am prepared to. I've worked with multiple friends on deals and not had an issue. But I know how games are played. I've worked for managers who wanted me to play games and I've flat out refused to do it their way.

Negotiating to an "out the door" price is probably something folks (including myself) should do more often.  Especially when one considers that price is usually when sales tax gets added, which in the case of a $20K car can be well over $1000 in some states.

I just went looking for a quick phone app that would basically be a quick spreadsheet: enter in some various figures and it'll give you a true monthly payment.  Didn't find anything.

"Come on that's only $3.50 a month." - Dealer

It wasn’t without additional drama though. When I handed the banker the sales contact from the dealer & explained they told me I needed to pick up a check, she was all “What’s this? Why are you here? Why didn’t they do this at the dealership???”. So it ended up taking an hour & a half at the bank to go through the whole preapporval process again(since the dealer didn’t submit it).

My dealership negotiated all the numbers in front of the customer. Purchase price up top, then accessories and then taxes and fees.

I've worked deals both ways from the other side of the table.

I work my own deals based upon purchase price but while seeing all the numbers in front of me.

I'm glad that the process is over and that you got your car. I like the look of them too, and a couple of my friends are fast on the autocross course in Fits.

I like to point them out and say, "Doesn't that just scream racecar?"

BTW, at least you got through it without someone drawing a Foursquare and asking what payments would work.

Good point. Though now that you mention it I’m a bit surprised they didn’t.

CVT - SWMBO wont drive a stick. Although she says she can, not once have I talked her into driving one over the last 15-years.

Thanks guys! She loves the car, I haven’t driven it since the initial trip around the block when they dropped it off... Honestly I’m trying to avoid sitting in it until the floor mats arrive tomorrow!
