Saw the new Renegade yesterday. Not as small as you might think.
Most days you'll find me behind the wheel of a '97 Eclipse. It just amazes me how large, huge, fat, etc. most cars or trucks have gotten these days. Most of these behemoths' headlights are above my rear view mirror, and I'm at stock ride height. I'm so glad we are reducing our dependency on foreign oil. Do you really need a 6,000 lb SUV with more doors than most Wal Marts just to drive little Sally to cheerleading practice?
Really??? Modern vehicles are very large and heavy??? We should have a discussion thread about that... Okay, sarcasm off. Sorry, I had to.

In my neighborhood it's a Rover or at least an Escalade to drive the kiddies half a block and sit idling with the heater or A/C on until the school bus arrives. And that's morning and evening!

People forget that it was a staple manufacturers' practice for decades to make each generation of a given model bigger and fancier so it could be marketed as "IMPROVED". Once it had moved up an entire class level, a new smaller base model was introduced to fill the void.

I drive a MINI Cooper AND a 6000+ lb, 8.1 liter, 2500 HD Suburban. So there.
In reply to Chris_V:
I also have an 8100 Suburban. My daily is a first gen insight. So there!
Edit: Damn, GPS, you beat me.
I also ride a motorcycle and mine is only 450cc
In reply to Giant Purple Snorklewacker:
methinks you missed the point entirely, while concurrently proving it. It's the fact that just because he sees a 6000+ lb SUV doesn't mean it's Suzie soccermom using it as a commuter and/or that's the only car in the household. And that you CAN like BOTH small cars (smaller than his) and large ones equally. But it takes not being a closed minded asshat to do so.

Too bad your MINI looks like a 6000+ lb Suburban next to a real Mini.

True.
It's still one of the smallest cars on the road and smaller than his Eclipse...
In reply to Chris_V:
I didn't miss anything. I was just echoing your reply with more contrast. But, I can do one better. I am also a closed-minded asshat!

Well, that went without saying.

It would be very nice if we knew better how to deal with this repeating thread every time it dies and comes back to life.

And we are only asking for what billions of $$ of finely tuned media conditioning has convinced us that we need ;)

Back to the OP,
Yes I thought the same when I saw one up close at a stop light. I was under the impression from magazine articles that it was supposed to be regular Fiat 500 sized. A bit bigger than that.
bravenrace wrote in a different thread: Its ugly, its beautiful, its heavy, its supposed to be, its not as good as the Challenger, it tromps on the Challenger, it looks like the Mustang, it looks unlike anything I've ever seen before in my life, GM sucks, the Vega is better than anything ever built by any other car company in the history of the earth, the back end looks wrong, the front end is perfect, the back end is perfect, the front end is, idunno, just wrong, 450hp and it doesn't get 40mpg too, that sucks, its just a CTS in disguise, its a CTS underneath!, blah blah blah...
I sat in one at the Detroit Auto Show and thought the seating position and general size reminded me of my wife's Scion xB. You sit high and there was good room in the second row. Space behind the second row wasn't great, but none of the shorter cars do. I could see myself getting one as a DD if it has enough grunt with awd and a manual. I'll need to take my sticks and hockey bag to test fit, too.
