I built an engine and it runs. I welded coil overs and they work. I've built darn near every nut and bolt on the car an everything seems to work just fine, except for one thing. And it's driving me nuts.
One of the headlights on the Celica won't go down. If I crank it down manually, it will come up again when I turn on the lights, but not back down. I replaced the whole Assembly with one from the junk yard. Still doesn't go down. Which makes sense when I think about it. The motor works fine, since it will go up.
I replaced several little boxes and it didn't fix it. I pretty much just have no idea. What makes the stupid lights go back down?
1984 Toyota Celica if it matters, but I'm assuming all these systems are probably similar. I'd really like to get this fixed.
Unplug both with them up, leave it that way.
So you got two with the same problem?

Well, that's what I want to figure out. Is it in the light, or is there some controller somewhere that, uh, controls that?
If the other goes up and down fine, I'd be thinking you have a broken wire or bad relay (down signal)
I don't know if the manuals at work go back that far, but I will look for a schematic monday
When there's a problem in the system, they probably fail to the raised position.

I'd appreciate it. I have to assume there's a relay somewhere but I've had zero luck finding it. I traced a bunch of stuff on the interior and changed out a box under the hood that I was sure would fix it. No luck yet.

That would appear to be the case.
just found this little didbit on a celica forum
hope it helps
If your headlights raise but don't lower when you switch them off, then

Hahaha this made me laugh. :-) You sound like me!!!
Sounds like you have some good potential solutions, keep us posted!

sorry about the one long sentence

I am thinking a relay. Either wired wrong, defective or replace with a normally ON when it should be normally OFF.
If the motor drives it both up and down, then the relay is reverse wired or the motor is.
