Local shop doesn't want to grind down my flywheel to take some weight off. Not because it's dangerous, but just because they don't do that. One of those things i guess.

I've heard of Miata guys getting their flywheels down to 14-15lbs doing this. I'd like to do it to mine, since i've had no luck trading a bucket of spare parts for a Fidanza at this point.

What's the concern, here?

Any of you guys work at a shop that could do this for me if i ship it out?

I'm assuming you just don't want to spend much money?

I mean... a Fidanza is $300. Free would be awesome, but everyone and their mother in the Miata world seem to have some sort of hookup where dudes cut their flywheels in half for the normal resurfacing fee. That's what i'd really like. Give or take a twenty spot.

Have you driven a Miata with a lightened flywheel yet?

Removing material from a flywheel isn't rocket science but there is always a chance the customer won't be satisfied with the result. Lighten too much and there are problems, too little and the customer complains. Sometimes a customer has no clue as what to expect.

Check with a NAPA store, if there are any in your area; some have affiliated machine shops or at least may offer recommendations.

Just because Yamaha seems to have made the same connection and thought i was talking about a Miata...

I'm not talking about a Miata. (My apologies guys) Our turbo miata already has a Fidanza in it and it's super fun. Fun enough i'm considering moving to a SuperMiata 1.6 clutch and flywheel setup later for more revs. There's really no downside to it in that car. The NB i just sold a week and a half ago had the full FM "Happy Meal" in it, was super fun and awesome. The Escort has a 7lb flywheel in it, and i don't know how it drives, but it revved like crazy and i like that.

There very well might be a downside or two to it in the MX6, but im prepared to deal with it if necessary, and have about 8 spare stock flywheels stacked around somewhere that i can swap in if it's really that bad.

How quick of a turn around do you need and what is the overall diameter?

I might be able to help you out. PM me the details if you want.

i feel like a lightened flywheel would really wake up my stock accent.

Miata guys probably have them just use the lathe to cut the ring off the back. You need to find a shop with a lathe, not a grinder... Then take it to a guy with a grinder to do the surfacing.

This is just revenge for your cheap local AN fittings and springs.
