Any experience with them? The local Buick dealer has some in stock for stupid low prices. If I can get them to agree to lease terms at that price as the capitalized price, we may find one in our driveway if someone can comment on just how small they are, along with their MPG.

For right now, our needs would be to have it be able to swallow 2 full size adults, 2 BIG dogs, and luggage for a week (think two carryons and 2 backpacks). Can it do that with the seats folded down? Right now we're in a Mazda Tribute (04), and it does it just fine. We can give up a little bit of space, but not too much.

In the future, it will need to be able to swallow 2 full size adults, a carseat (preferably in the middle), and a stroller. At that point we'll have something larger for vacations and dog duty, so the baby+dog situation likely is not important.

What say the hive?

I like them, but I have not been too close to one yet. My Mother is thinking of trading in her ancient Rendezvous on one.. I am trying to gently push her in that direction.

I work at a GM dealership. The Encore (and by extension it's Trax cousin) are a pretty solid little rig. Most issues we see are radios flaking out or locking up (there's a bunch of bulletins on reprograms). Other than that, they seem to rack up the miles without much more than basic maintenance.

I had a 2017 Trax as a loaner last year for a few days. It was a decent ride, did commuting quite well and had decent inside room.

It should fit all that stuff but you will probably have to get it just right.

Same platform as the Chevy Sonic and the wife's sedan fits two full size suitcases and two carry on bags with some room to spare in the trunk. We find it comfortable but we're not big people

Thanks Zombie. I'd normally never be considering this, but I might be able to lease it for cheap enough that it would effectively be a wash based on gas prices alone within a year. Have to see if the lease deal I come up with can be honored by the dealer.

We test drive one when we were shopping last year. My wife was infatuated with the encore. She was really set on getting one.

The interior is small, really small. It felt like we were sitting in each other's lap. Her Elantra had more room up front.

It drove like a small econo box. Meaning very choppy and rough.

We both found the seats to be uncomfortable in positioning and very hard to sit on.

There is no storage space behind the rear seats with them up. With three of us we couldn't fit enough luggage for two days let alone a week.

I say definitely drive one. My wife was all set to get one but the test drive completely turned her off.

A recent (but passed) Buick Encore $135/mo lease but the logic should still carry forward.

I liked the one I test drove but it is small. I don’t know about getting the dogs and luggage in at the same time.

My wife has one and we love it.  First off, it is small.  Compared to the Kia Rondo, it is narrower and shorter.  That said, it handles day to day duties very well and is bigger than the Soul she had before.  We have a car set it in at all times and often toss a dog in the back.  Giant St. Bernards could be an issue, but a 65# Pit is not.

The reason she got it was for all the gadgets: power everything, nice stereo, leather, bluetooth, etc. She calls it Lancelot because it is such a gentleman and it does everything for her.  For someone who is in charge of a department, it is also a nicer image than a cute red Soul.

As for driving, it is peppy and its small size makes it a good car for traffic.  The ride is not horrible on long trips and it can be a decent highway cruiser.  The manu-matic shifting option is a joke, but this isn't the kind of car youd do that in anyway.

It has been 100% rock solid over 2 years of ownership, and we bought it used.  The interior bits are solidly put together and are hadnling the abuse of a 6 year old boy very well.  Overall, I give it two thumbs up.
