I have 4 motorcycles now and I've been working on two of them off and on in the garage. This being the case I had to move the C5 Z06 out into the driveway for a couple weeks. Well more like a month. Like many FRCs, the roof leaked a bit during this time and now I have that wet interior smell that just refuses to go away. It isn't too awful bad and if it was just me I'd crack the window and continue to drive the hell out of it. Well,...most of us know what tomorrow is and I have a dinner date. I sure would like to find a quick and easy cure to this stink problem. I don't think it will be warm enough to ride one of the bikes to dinner.
Any ideas? What works best besides those pine tree thingys you hang from the mirror?
Thanks
I bet if you really get it dried out well then the smell will go away. Best way to do this is get the heat AND the A/C turned on full bast. Run it for 30 minutes or so and I bet you'll be all set. Keep the windows/doors closed.
Fabreeze is a good short term fix, sometimes works as a long term fix too. Put some baking soda boxes under or behind the seats too.
Lots of silica gel desiccant.
Wet-dry vac the snot out of it, buy a tub of desiccant (moisture absorber) and stick it in there, then a little febreeze.
Go to the dealer, we have something called Odor-Rid. It works wonders. We'll have the local Enterprise Rent-A-Racer come by and have us do it to their cars that have been smoked in. Used vehicles we get as trade in's that stink to high heaven will smell great after the treatment. Check with the local Ford or Chevy dealer and see if they have it.
thanks. i just bought some of those Fabreeze things that go in the vents. They seem to do the job. They;re adjustable too
Ozone machine. The good one that duct cleaning guys use.
Once its dry, of course.

Hope you get the smell out of there.
C5 vettes have non-waterproof roofs? Amazing. There is no excuse for that on a car that new and that expensive. Is this really a common issue with these cars? I have to admit I'm more than a bit flabergasted.

I've never had the roof leak in my Z06....
look over on the Vette forums. It may not be like every other one...but a good many will leak slightly if left in a long hard rain. Mine never leaked before either until it spent that month outside. Mine doesn't seem to be effected when driven in the rain though.
AFAIK it's only the C5 FRC (fixed roof coupes) that do it
Bizarre that the FIXED ROOF one has more trouble than the removable roof models!!
My dad had a 1955 Corvette convertible that he bought new and never could get the roof to stop leaking. He traded it in after coming out from a movie with a date and finding the seats all wet.
My targa leaks like a sieve, both air and water. At high speeds it's so breezy I start to wonder when the back window is going to give up the ghost. It is louder than my motorcycle helmet, which is a Bell with big screaming vents.
Whoever thought frameless windows were a good idea needs to be taken out back and horsewhipped. They don't work. They don't work on Subarus. They don't work on Neons. They don't work on Corvettes. They don't work on BMWs. They don't work.

They work fine on Miatas...when the top is down.

Speaking of frameless windows, what the hell makes people think it's ok to shut the car door using the window. RAGE
