Anyone here buy or trade a car with Carvana?

Oh, wait, I just did both!

New car gets delivered/old car gets picked up Sunday. Watch this thread to see if I get scammed or not.

I don't have anything to add, but I've seen those giant vending machines on their commercials and I want to get a car out of one.

There is one of those vending machines I drive by in the northern Indy area that is interesting. Color coded cars.

I'll probably price them when I move upmarket to a Juke and Altima coupe for my two dailies. smiley

I think they're fine unless you finance with them; their rates are usurious as they are owned by Drivetime.

I sold a car to Vroom instead of Carvana as they offered me more, and the process was super shady. They paid, however!

I hope your experience is better than mine. I had to return the car because of undisclosed damage and paintwork. I really wanted the idea to work well, it just didn’t.

I actually ended up financing with them as their rate was within half a point of what I'm paying now, and i figure I can always refi with my regular bank when I'm 100% satisfied with the car. I have really good credit, though. From what I've seen their rates for anything outside of flawless credit are fairly harsh. Luckily I fall outside that range. It's expensive to be poor I guess.

Yeah, that's definitely on my mind. But after lots of discussion with them, I opted to take delivery of the car at my place since it was free and I have way better facilities to inspect it. I'm not sure how many of their cars come off the truck and go right on a lift, but I have those resources so I'm going to exploit them. Apparently I have 60 minutes to make a decision and I plan to use every second.

I almost bought an ND from them. I read a review about someone who took delivery of a car that was not as described and when it came time to return it, all the sudden they didnt want to help, customer had to deliver it themselves.

So I found a nice Soul Red Club ND, with some scratches noted. I called and asked if there was anyway I could inspect it, they said not unless I did all the paperwork and took delivery, but assured me if I didnt like it I could return it. I didnt really care for that idea.

I found the same car with less miles and the BBS/Brembo Option for 2K less at a normal dealer, were I could look at it, so I bought that one.

I bought a Nissan Leaf last year from Carvana, it was totally non-eventful.

I would do it again.

Hope you get a delivery guy with a sense of humor that will appreciate this.  Sounds like it should be taped for a weekly FB Live video.

It seems as though they are taking the sales tactic of letting people get attached to something and think of it as theirs to the next level. The fact you can't inspect the car before you do the paperwork has kept me from even considering buying a car from them. Sixty minutes is not enough time to perform a good inspection and proper test drive.

Online reviews of the service tend to be either five star or one star. And the one star reviews all seem to have some very similar themes of people with sketchy credit, people who were waaaaay outside their usual delivery areas, or people who were just flat expecting too much. So I definitely weighted the credibility I gave those reviews a bit.

As for prices, Carvana was definitely higher for comparable models than CarMax or private sales. But they were also offering me way more on my trade than CarMax was, and maybe as much as I could get for it on a straight sale after dealing with a lot of idiots. I understand that part of the cost involved in this is for the convenience. If it truly is as easy and seamless as they're promising, that's worth something to me. If I can do this deal and never have to leave my yard or deal with some sketchy seller who can't find a title or get texts at 3am from someone wanting to trade a stack of "really high quality" bootleg Dokken CDs for the car I'm selling, that's worth money to me.

I’m too young to be this old fashioned but I’ll exchange my money in person for a car I’ve looked over and test driven to my satisfaction.

I got a year old 2016 Nissan Leaf with 1200 miles, for half the new price. It was basically a new car. It came from Arizona, I don't think it had ever even been wet.

Carvana brought it their max 100 miles to near our house.

All of the paper work was handled over the phone, payment, tile, license, taxes.

It was easy.

Will they still buy your old car even if you reject the new one?

Really the only down side to Carvana is the take it or leave it policy. Say the car has a small flaw, if you were at a dealer you would say fix it, or take $xxx off the price. With Carvana you have to decide is it a big enough problem to reject the car, Otherwise you suck it up and keep it.
