There are a lot of good picks in the thread, but I'm going to go with the modern GT86.
A car you can buy brand new in 2021 with a manual trans, rwd, weighs 2800lbs, a factory warranty, and passes modern crash safety tests? That's pretty damn cool!

Sadly, this thread has me looking at JDM imports.

Lots of other great, maybe even better answers in this thread, and a couple others I'd like to dig up, but for some reason this is what always springs to mind...

Those pop up lights are about as ridiculous as the ones on the Lancia Scorpion. Did they accidentally order headlight motors with the wrong working angle?

...LFA

How is this up for debate?

Did I miss anyone else pointing out that there's no need for the "not a Supra" caveat? We can just ask for the coolest rwd Toyota and know it won't be one of those.

Nothing wrong with Supras, just plenty else here that's cooler.

This question is tailor-made for making my brain explode. I've owned several AE86s, all of which I loved, a Starlet which I loved loved loved, an AW11 MR2 which I liked a whole lot, a GT86/FR-S/BRZ which might be the best car I've ever owned, and I've come within a whisker of owning a Sport 800 not once, but twice.

Coolest-amongst a group of car enthusiasts? AE86.

Coolest-by yourself hustling down a twisty backroad? Starlet.

Coolest-amongst the population and modern world at large? Frisbee.

I sure as hell wouldn't kick a 2000GT, an LFA, or a Sport 800 out of bed for eating crackers, but either is at least several tax brackets above my current financial reality.

While we're talking about Toyota's front end lighting treatments, have we mentioned this sweetness yet?

The LFA doesn't even make my top 10 coolest RWD Toyotas personally

This wasn't what I was looking for, but now I know a '72 Crown wagon is cool...

I prefer the TA64 version, per TTE.

Funnily, almost all pics I easily find are either models, video game mods, or Safari spec.  The Celicas did rather well at the Safari rally because they were stone simple.  4 linked live axle, struts up front, car was based on an actual car not a tube framed homologation "production" car.  They didn't do all that great on shorter rallies with more emphasis on speed, because they weren't mid engined enough to be competitive on tarmac and they weren't all wheel drive enough to be competitive on gravel.  Spectacular to watch on either surface at least, thanks to them basically being a 350hp over-turbocharged Escort.

Mmmm... K27 turbo on a 2100cc engine.  With independent throttles.  What is weird to modern eyes is that despite being a wide angle DOHC head, it is still a two valve engine.

The ultimate version of sticking a Celica (Supra) front and rear suspension/unibody chunks into a Mustang, I suppose.
