Just a friendly reminder that it is good to have a fire extinguisher handy - securely mounted so you always know where it is.
In case you happen to set your car on fire... like I did yesterday.
I'll be buying a replacement today (extinguisher, not car).
One in the garage, one in the kitchen, and one in every 3 of the cars I value.
I have four.. one in the garage I rent, one at home, and one in each of my drivers
One in the house, two in the shop. None in the DD cars. I would rather watch them burn.
Sometimes other things catch on fire.
The only time I've used one wasn't on my own car, but was on a flaming bike-engined Locost. Wouldn't have mattered what I was driving at the time, it would have been a shame to lose that car.
^ What Keith said. I've never had to use one of my fire extinguishers on something of mine, but I have used them on other people's stuff.
One Thanksgiving morning a few years back, my work van's engine bay caught fire while sitting in a parking lot. Luckily, a police car drove by about that time, and she reached in the trunk and grabbed an extinguisher, pointed it into the bay. Unluckily.. psssst..spit. Nothing. She had used it the week before and forgot to get it recharged! About that time the overheated radiator hose blew, and the steam almost put out the flames. About that time, the fire truck pulled into the lot (the station was only 4 blocks away, a passeerby had called it in), and finished putting it out.
I had to replace the engine wiring harness, hoses, plug wires, belts, etc., but I kept it going for several years after that. Ever since then, I keep one in all my vehicles. 2 in my new work van.
I was a bit late carving the turkey that year...
My friends El Camino burnt down on the side of the road. He should have had one.
