Amazon showed me an ad for a foam gun from Chemical Guys that didn't require a pressure washer, but many reviews said the gun is cheap and leaks like crazy.  A link from there took me to an Adam's, but saw similar complaints.

Anyone using a foam gun that doesn't require a pressure washer that actually works?

I have it and use it.  No leaking, no complaints.

That's a generic gun with Chemical Guys logos.  There are identical versions for 1/2 as much.

Does not give me much confidence in the rest of the Chemical Guys product line.

How well do the foam guns actually work? Like, at removing bugs and all the crap that comes on a daily? As good as a hand wash?

Foam guns work good to let the soap soak in but it doesn't clean your car for you.  You still need a wash mitt to clean the dirt off when it's really dirty.

I have a foam gun that I use with an electric pressure washer. I use it for washing our motorhome and cars. Just spraying the foam alone without scrubbing/ rubbing the surface will not get the surface clean. However the foam layer does loosen dirt/bugs etc. and I think makes it easier to wash. I especially like it on motorhome because I can foam large areas and wash with a long handled very soft boars hair brush. Goes much faster then constantly dipping in bucket along with reducing the abrasive dirty water. Your mileage may vary.

Yeah, foam gun is just a lazy man's way of applying soap.  Wet the car, then soak it with soap and it loosens stuff.  You still wash & rinse like normal.

That one pictured has plastic fittings and doesn't have the quick release between the 2 sections.

I thought about it before buying the Chemical Guys one, but I didn't want to give my $ to a E36 M3ty version, have it break, and be annoyed immediately afterward.  I understand there isn't a huge difference between them, but I do assume that with a "name" like that there is a little bit more product quality/quality control.

That was the one, but a bundle of the gun and two products - soap and wax I think.  I recognize the first review saying "here's the o ring you need for everyone saying theirs leaks."

I was also curious how well they work without mechanical agitation (ie wash mitt). Hm.

Good catch. I think this one is identical: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B095C3FHJ8

I've had an equivalent for about 10 years.  It's fine.  I use it to soap up the cars and then also use a wash mitt with a bucket of soapy water.

Eh. I have one and use it semi-regularly, but I'm still not convinced that it's anything more than an extra step. But the car looks cool when it's all foamed up:
