Pretty easy to keep it under $40k with good options. Not small money by any means, but probably a good value even so.
yeah the starting price is basically dead even with a Golf R (~$80 difference).
Surprisingly competitively priced IMO. I expected it to be higher.
i was hoping that ridiculous green color would be available

Anyone else notice the 2.3L EcoBoost® Engine with auto start stop technology?
I could see an 'auto start stop' on a car with an automatic but with a manual transmission?
I wonder how quickly it comes to life after sitting at a traffic light and you try a jack rabbit start...
How much will dealer markups be?

You honestly don't need the extra tire package if you plan on seriously using the car for AutoX or Track either as the sport cups are not as good nor will they last as long as other options. Youd be better off buying a set of 18s if they fit over the brakes and some RS3's or RE017rs or Rivals or something
That's going to be hard to pass up. I'll wait for the dealer markup to go down though.
I can't help but think that if/when I get ready to replace the paid-for Mustang in a few years as it ages, the lightly-used performance car market is going to be awesome. Focus RS, modified ND Miatas, Maybe AWD MS3, or even a used GT350...
Now, if this was a 2016 Miata, we'd be complaining that there's only one color and all the rest are grey/black/white. And that it's $45,000 for a Focus!
or $40k for a Golf or $40k for a STi and who knows how much the new Civic Type R will be... they are all going for that price nowadays...

I know they're not really geared toward the same buyer, and the RS seems to be priced fairly with it's competition, but 35-40k buys a lot of Mustang.

We expect a fosuc to be bland, but a Miata should express its flamboyancy as loudly as possible
Four colors? I like that stupid loud construction cone orange color.
I love that blue. Car will be cheapo in a few years. My 2014 ST with 9k miles is worth pennies despite what NADA would tell you.

What do you mean?
I look at used ones pretty regularly, and they seem to be holding value pretty well

Maybe I'm wrong, but I was looking around on Autotrader and they are a few 2014s going for $20-22k with low miles, but then again those are low option cars.
I got my loaded ST for $26k off the lot.

20-22 sounds right. A 4-6k drop isn't terrible.
Back when I thought was going to get a new one, there were 10 new ST1s under $20k on cars.com

I had that on an Audi A4 rental I had in Germany a couple years ago, which was a manual. It would start back up as soon as you push in the clutch pedal after the engine turns off at a stoplight. That was a diesel though - not sure if the gas engine would start as quickly or not.
I am the only person who thinks the 0-60 sounds slightly disappointing for the power output and AWD? What are the gear ratios and final drive? It's not slow and is definitely worth a drive, but I would've expected 4.2-4.4
There's something about a $40k focus I absolutely love. Wish they still make a coupe. Cooler than a v8 mustang imo.

Agreed. First Ford in years that is truly interesting to me. Not that the others are bad.

The Fiesta rental I had in Europe a couple weeks ago had this feature. When you put it in neutral at a stop it would cut the engine but if you left it in gear with the clutch depressed the engine would stay on. Once off, as soon as you clutched in to shift back into first the engine starts back up and it's quick enough that by the time you complete the shift into first you're ready to go. Wasn't a problem at all.
