Ummm, I thought F1 teams aren't allowed to have a third car.  My understanding is they can have all the parts but not a third tub. Maybe I'm wrong, wouldn't be the first time

I'm surprised the sponsors allow that. If they're paying for two cars in a race it seems they'd expect a spare for such occasions.

Not only that but some contracts go as far as specifying if the car is being driven  then their driver must be driving it.

I'm pretty sure they can bring a third tub. They can't enter 3 cars but I seem to recall at some point recently someone had to switch to a different tub during a race weekend. It may have been Haas in the incident that I mentioned a page ago when Mick had the hard crash and didn't continue. Maybe that story was they had another tub but choose not to use it because Mick took such a hard hit. It's all blending together and I don't have it in me to do research this morning. 🙂

Right. Having a third tub or chassis is allowable, for exactly this case. Williams' "organization tools" basically caused this.

Teams can't have a third completed car, but they can have a 3rd tub. Williams doesn't have one and/or didn't bring it.

We all want to see all 20 drivers compete in every race, wouldn't it make sense to allow T cars like back in the day? I know they have all these cost cutting rules but at the same time they are adding races to the calender to make more money so somebody down at Formula 1 needs to wake up to the fact that this is entertainment and to treat it as such.

This isn't an f1 issue.  I am almost positive that redbull, Mercedes, Ferrari all have spare tubs at the races.

This is a williams problem....

No, I know that but teams used to have fully assembled extra cars and if there was a problem in practice or even the first lap of the race, the third car could run. With curfew rules, teams that have an extra tub might not even have the time to put a car together for the race

I still say that on sprint weekends each team should have two cars for the race and two different cars for the sprint.  That way if a car gets stuffed in the wall during the sprint that driver isn't out of the main event.

The curfew rules can be "broken" for instances like this.

Yes they can and I read an article on F1.com that said Williams isn't the only team without a spare tub this weekend. They wouldn't say who though.

Hamilton out with engine failure lap 17.  That move to Ferrari is looking better all the time.

And let's remember the winner is losing his seat next season. I like Charles, but Sainz seems better.

And a nice double points for Haas. Even it that is a lot due to George. But still, for them to be there, real progress.

Well, that was fun.  Very nice job by Carlos,  and Ferrari.  They sure did do the right math this last winter on their tire life troubles from the last couple of years.  Fred Vasseur is gonna be a hero in Italy.

Sure was nice to see Max blow up.  Looks good on him.  Checo didn't have speed.

George.  Dude.

Mclaren looks awfully good out there.

Awesome race and go Sainz!

That Alonso penalty is BS though.

A group of us watched the race together and there were cheers all around when max started smoking. I think it's the best race of the year so far. Even the best driver in the best car can have an off day, thank goodness. Sainz drove a flawless race and the only non Red Bull driver to win a race since 2022-amazing that he's out of Ferrari at the end of the year. The Alonso penalty is crap, a driver needs to be allowed to drive defensively.

I really don't know what to think of the Alonso penalty. Seemed like clever racecraft to me, and if it was truly a brake-check then Russell would have locked up. He had plenty of time to adjust his speed for entry, but instead Russell stayed in it, final lap emotions and all, and binned it as a result. On the other hand, Alonso immediately went on the radio claiming throttle issues, so he probably knew what he did was dirty. Idk.
