I don't see this as a case of dive-bombing. They were side-by-side and Piastri should have given room for Max to turn.

Piastri did indeed squeeze him and Verstappen attempted to play the rules but came out second..........stuff happens.
As soon as the pass happened I said "he has to give that back"
The stewards made the right call.
In reply to JimS :
Given that Max didn't really bother to turn in that's kind of a moot point. We really don't know if Oscar would have given him enough room or not. And they while they were next to each other, Oscar was ahead where it counted- meaning Max passed him back by going off the road.
I'd like to poiint out that two rookies were in the points again, Kimi and Isack......when has that happened with such regularity?

I agree the PASS by Piastri was great and clean and only spoiled by Max not staying on track to have a race.
My use of the wording "dive bombing" was in reference to the increase of importance of the driving standards from 2015 on.
In reply to alfadriver :
Max couldn't turn in because of Piastri. They could have raced side by side through the turn. Been done many times by many racers.
In reply to JimS :
Max could have turned in behind Piastri as what usually happens when a car is passed. I actually think if Max didn't over cook it he would either have been neatly behind Piastri or along side Piastri and on the inside for turn 2.
Just by coincidence, I'm watching the 2018 Brazil GP, and Max just chopped the E36 M3 out of Ocon, spun both, and lost the lead. While lapping him. While Max was leading.
Much RB radio noise and gnashing of teeth.
Edit: Ocon was on fresh tires, and was unlapping himself. Got a ten second stop and go. Cool down room after, Lewis said to Max, "He has the right to unlap himself, and you had a lot more to lose in the situation."
Max has learned, but not completely.
2018 was also the year that Seb completely lost the plot. Unforced errors all through the second half of the season, after going off in the rain in Germany.
Williams continues to have a decent year. Like Albon said, they have been consistent versus the ups and downs of the other non-top teams. Racing bulls seems their closest stable rival and a short step away from being consistently the 5th fastest team but the driver swap may have distracted them.
Hamilton will likely need to look at retirement if things don't look great in 2026.
McLaren are on plan. Some stumbles from Piastri and Norris but still pulling a good gap in the constructors championship.
Antonelli is impressively close to Russell.
I'm a huge Lewis fan but he is talking like a completely defeated man and that's not an attitude that wins races
One more Max comment, then I will leave it alone. ESPN posted an overhead shot that sure as hell looked like Oscar was pushing Max off the outside of the corner. But... Live by the sword, die by the sword . Max has set a precedent that will be very hard to leave behind, for the rest of his career.
Suck one dick, and they call you gay...

That pretty much sums it up. If there were gravel traps in some of these sections I'd bet the racing would look a lot different.

Oh, piastri 100% pushed max off (or he let off the brakes and made it look like he did). However, the way the rule is written, if you have the apex, you can do what you want.
I hate the way the passing rules are written. But, with what we have, this was a clean pass.
I have never (intentionally) pushed someone off track with a pass. Cause it's bullE36 M3. But, if I was in F1, I'd take advantage of every single thing I could.
Which is worse, passing off the track or pushing someone off the track? If you KNOW the other driver will make the pass, the stewards have always favored the driver in front regardless of if they pushed the other car off if the car going off the track has gained an advantage going off the track.
The only possibility that I would think the car ahead at the apex does not get the benefit of the doubt is if they cause a collision. Which is a really risky move given how many times it results in a DNF.

According to the existing rules, passing off the track is bad. Pushing another driver off the track is basically fine.
Whether that's acceptable in the big scheme of things is kinda irrelevant. Thems the rules. (The ruling persons always ignore leaving a car width. Always.)
I am really enjoying how the Euros are thrashing the Miami event. Boats on trailers, with a fake pool underneath a highway

That's how I feel about it as well....
It's an f1 race in a parking lot (partially).
That's really the best we could do?

What do you mean? ESPN says it's "America's Monaco". No, really.
If anything is "America's Monaco", it's Long Beach, even though F1 doesn't race there anymore.

I guess considering we have 3 GPs in this country, it's likely not.
I haven't been to Vegas yet, but been to COTA for F1 several times - the latter is very nice and a cool track to drive. Much nicer than some of the other venues where I've seen F1 races - Hunagry, Hockenheim, Detroit (the old one around the Ren Cen), and Phoenix. Indianapolis was cool in it's own way, and Montreal has the benefit of being a short train ride from downtown and the track itself is iconic (the hairpin, the 'wall of champions'), but not really awesome. The Red Bull Ring is in a fabulous location in the mountains of Austria, but I couldn't help but be underwhelmed at the track, too.
The first Vegas F1 track was literally in the Caesar's parking lot, and Dallas and Detroit really weren't much better. Having said that, the Meadowlands Indycar races in the parking areas around Giants Stadium had a great location but essentially a weird oval, but the Miami F1 track is so much better for stadium parking area racing. And almost certainly better than racing these big, fast F1 cars at Homestead.
My $.02 from having been to a bunch of F1 (and IndyCar and and and) races over the past 40+ years.
I'll let you know what I think about it after tomorrow. I'm going to a party at Hard Rock Stadium tonight, so I'll get a chance to survey things a bit, but won't get to watch cars on track until tomorrow (I think).

Max is a new Dad, I hear. Congrats. I hope the kid gets Mom's looks...
Edit, maybe not yet. Saw a post, but no other confirmation.
Second, the amazing cheesiness of the Miami decoration makes me roll my eyes so hard, I can see my frontal lobe. Murca!
Third, everyone needs to watch the 2019 German race from Hockenheim. It is two hours of absolute hilarity. Really.

I think the Euros have a point there are many historical race tracks all over the world but these street tracks are just marketing and out reach. If they put on a good show it's plus, but that isn't the identity. I would take Mid-O, WGI, Road America, Laguna seca,ect.. over any street course especially at a fan prospective. On the other hand I would love to see Cleveland Burke have another indycar race, they weren't always exciting but you could see the whole track and it's super close to me.
It will be interesting to hear your prospective, my sister in law went to Miami but she had corporate tickets so it was defiantly a fan zone experience rather then a racing experience.

Baby birth confirmed on Official F1 site. I only hope and pray the baby is healthy for them! Congratulations to them both! A very special moment that isn't always guaranteed to go well.
I think that is the intentional marketing of Las Vegas and Miami being laid bare for Americans to see more clearly.
I have visited family that live in both cities and always find their marketing to be rather disingenuous and almost offensively silly.
Miami seems to be stuck in the Miami vice/late 80s cuban american era in their marketing. And Las Vegas has always seem like a steel mill town but they work gambling houses instead of furnaces and crucibles. Their sin city marketing is self fulfilling and leads to more money for the owners.
